Host The Cecil The Bear World Tour!

Okay. I freely admit I am stealing this idea from another poster (pLt), but he didn't follow up on it, and he hasn't posted in a year, so I'm stealing it. (Sorry, pLt! E-mail me if this pisses you off.) Here's the deal:

I have a teddy bear, whom I have dubbed Cecil the Bear. Cecil the Bear's greatest desire (I just know it) is to travel around the country -- nay, the world -- in a series of cardboard boxes, meeting Dopers of every stripe and seeing the sights of the world. To that end, he wishes to know if any of you would be willing to sponsor his world tour.

Responsibilities would be as follows:

Receive bear. Take bear around your town, seeing the sights, hopefully taking copious pictures of bear with Dopers. Dopefest optional, but bear willing to serve as excuse to have one. Write entry in bear's travel journal, maybe stick cheap local trinket in bear's box, mail bear to next host. If all goes well, Cecil TB will go around the world and meet a lot of great, fun people. I will post pictures, map, and journal entries along the way, so we can all travel with him. (Well, I hope someone will help me with that part. ) Once he returns, I will gather up all his stuff and organize it, and we'll send him off to a new home in Chicago (if they want him). I imagine, if he doesn't collect too much crap, he'll cost, say, 8 bucks U.S. to send along.

If this interests people, please reply with the following:

Screen name, location, what sights bear might see, and solemn oath on a stack of Bibles may God strike you dead if you fail that you will send the bear along to the next person, and not leave him in a box in the corner of your living room, producing pangs of guilt everytime you look at him for months on end, because you know you said you do it, and you're going to get around to it soon.

Oh, and then e-mail me with your real name and address, and if you are willing to undertake overseas postage, which of course will be more. All personal information to be held in strictest confidence, IRL info to be given only to the person who will be sending the bear to you.

Let's get that bear in the air!

I was unaware FairyChatMoose was touring around. I was unaware that FCM existed, frankly, though I hope she (she?) is having fun. I have searched for FCM and am still uncertain if she is touring extensively, or only going to Dopefests.

But the world is wide; surely there is room in it for two touring stuffed animals?

Besides, this is totally different. She (she?) is a moose. This is a ]bear.

FairyChatMoose isn't traveling around - she just attends DopeFests as my proxy since I live far away from everybody. And the lovely Miss Moose would love to show Cecil the Bear the sights in Jacksonville and vicinity! E-mail shall follow!

There's a local strip club I could take the bear to...pose it on stage with the "talent" ....or is that not the kind of thing one does with a cuddly wuddly bear...?

I can take Da Bear on a tour of the statues on Monument Avenue, romp with him at Maymont, and I'm sure I can come up with other stuff (I'm tired and coming up with sights to see does not come easily with sleep deprivation). E-mail to follow.

BEAGLEDAVE -- I think taking the bear to a strip joint would be hilarious. You do whatever you want, though I would request the ambassador of Dopedom stay in one piece.

Okay, so far CTB is going to Edmonton, Jacksonville, and Richmond. There's a lot of space between those places -- c'mon, guys, won't you take in a homeless bear?

Is he a cute bear? If he's a cute bear, then he can attend BamaDope in August. He'll even get to go to the Zoo and see the other bears.

But he has to be a cute bear. If he's an ugly bear, or a mediocre bear, the deal's off.

not that he could EVER hold a candle to FCMoose

I live in San Antonio, Tx, and like to attend dopefests in Houston, Austin, and the Dallas area whenever possible. I'm sure I can find lots of sights for Cecil Bear to see. I love to take pictures, and he will have my very own purrplebear for company, as well as myself.

Email to follow soon, as I'm on my way out the door at the moment.

If you can get CtB to me by the middle of June, I can probably get him to DC, Canada and to Dave and Ginger's wedding. When Rachaar and I go to the dopefestrenfest August 3, we can take him (Cecil is a guy, affer all) to a renfest. Only thing more doperish I can think of is an orgy with a keg

From there, any one of our NYC dopers can take him

Well, if CTB wants another trip to Edmonton, I'm in! (Or, if it's timed right, I could take it to visit the beautiful farmlands of Duchess, in S. Alberta! Ya!)

Actually, if you can get him to me by the beginning of June, I can get him to MountainDope on June 8th, and then hand him off to 'punha after that.

Also, I can show him the sights of beautiful Ft. Meade, and he can have his picture taken on a tank!

E-mail on the way.

I would love to show him Montreal. Note that I'll be in Spain for the entire month of July - if I get him before then, I'll take him with me if you like! And if I don't - well, then we'll have a little problem.

Okay, we can do the theme park thing (and smaller attractions) and we can go on one of those hydroboat-thingy things looking for alligators in central Florida.

Send me Cecil.

During the school year, I could take him to Emily Dickinson's house and grave, and the pinnacle of education that is Amherst College. During the summer, I could show him where the Battle of Plattsburgh took place, the tumultuous hockey arena where the US and Russia played their landmark game, Ben & Jerry's factory in Burlington, etc.

Sounds like fun!

Well, I'd love to be the first to show CTB good ol' VT, but I am in NY for the summer, and I don't think I'll go home just for CTB (sorry, but gas costs too much money now.)

Oh...upon reading the rest of the thread, I see that NightRabbit might be able to sneak into VT for a bit. That's good. (oh, and not to nipick, but the B&J factory is in Shelburne, not Burlington. )

I'm still willing to take him, of course. I can show him around the campus. Hell, if I end up doing that research this summer, maybe I can give him a tour of one of the labs, clean suit and all! (Hmm...do they make clean suits for bears?)

I already took UnderWear Bear around Edmonton. Sounds like the Bear is already going to Edmonton, but I'd be more than happy to join in the sight seeing/picture taking when he gets here.

Oh shoot. And I just noticed that my husband is logged in. Darn. Well, I'm posting this anyway.

Well, lesse...since Cecil The Bear's planning to stop in both Fall River and Amherst, I would be very happy to host him in the Boston area!

Oh, there's so many sights for him to visit, never mind the photographic opportunities!

Plus he'll become very well versed in American History

E-Mail to be sent very shortly...

Does CtB want to see Minnesota? We're having a dopefest June 1, if you get him to me by then I'll take him along. I doubt I could get him a meeting with Jesse, but other local sites might be interesting.

May I be the first to suggest a visit to the Left Coast?

Kathy and I would love to host the bear for a few days - don't know of any dopefests going on around here in El Lay, but we'd be happy to take some "candid" photos of CTB around the area.

WOW!

Three Dopefests, a wedding, a trip to Australia and maybe one to Quebec . . jeez, I'm jealous of my own bear.

Okay, bear goes in the mail sometime this week, so if anyone else would like to be in on the original routing, please respond -- and the more the merrier. I would love to have CTB meet as many Dopers as possible.

One caveat -- I think it only makes sense to send him to one Doper in a particular city, rather than mail him around the same zip code. I will send him to the first Doper responding from any given location, and then if that person wants to get together with other Dopers for pix and a tour, that would be awesome. But if he or she would rather just mail the bear to the next destination, that's fine, too. I don't intend to leave anyone out, so if anyone objects to this plan, please let me know.

Okay. At Punkyova's suggestion, she'll get da bear for the Minnesota Dopefest, then send him to Lucretia for MountainDope, to be handed off to Iampunha for Airman's wedding and possibly DopeRenFest. If that's okay with you, 'pun, I need your IRL information. The bear will prolly go one or two places first, but hopefully be in Minnesota by the end of this month. (Which is why he needs to hit the road this week, if possible.)

I will try to get CTB to as many people as possible. If they are still interested, I need real names and addresses by e-mail from:
[b]rocking chair, bobkitty, purplebear, iampunha, Arwen, matt_mcl, screech-owl, NightRabbit, bouv, lolagranola, CanadianSue, kiz[b] and Rico

TheLoadedDog, CTB is definitely headed your way, though I'm not sure when just yet. Anybody know if any EuroDopers would like to host him after he's seen Australia? Any other Aussie Dopers want to put him up? Let me know!

Thanks for playing along, guys; I hope it's fun for all.

I'll take the CTB around ohter parts of Colorado. He could vist lovely Boulder, downtown Bailey, Fairplay, Como (including the Como Roundhouse) and the Conifer Safeway (center of the universe).

It's a shame CTB can't make it to me before 1 pm Saturday. He could go to the Thankyou Fire Fighters parade in Bailey. But if he can get to me before summer has ended, I'm sure there will another Thankyou Firefighters parade he can attend. A picture with CTB and some smoke jumpers would be cool.

The email is on it's way.

There's room for him in Prince George. I can take a picture of him in front of Mr. PG, the City Mascot (a large, somewhat scary statue). If he makes it here by August, I'm sure that there will still be snow too!

FairyChatMom, if you want, you can send the Moose along, and we can have her at the wedding.

Just an idea:
I think it'd be cool if CtB could pick up little souvenirs along the way. They'd have to be pretty small to avoid the postage getting out of hand as this thing progresses - I was thinking stuff along the lines of little stick-pins, postcards, coasters, stickers, etc. Maybe we could make him up a passport to put stuff in.

By the way, Jodi, I was kidding about the surface mail bit. I don't mind adding to Mr Bear's frequent flyer miles.

I'm so excited about this! Kind of absurdly excited, actually. Note to self: Get life.

I am going to try to arrange things so that CTB can go to the Dopefests, since I can't. He would love to meet a hot stuffed mama like FairyChatMoose, so we'll work on that as well. I just need to get the dates of the various Dopefests hammered down, so I can plan his itinerary. LoadedDog, I love the idea of a passport, and I'm going to make one up and include it.

Not to nitpick your nitpick, but the main Ben and Jerry's factory is in Waterbury, VT, with other factories in Springfield and St. Albans. Their corporate offices are in South Burlington.

I'd love to host Cecil! My name and address are coming your way! I'm in VT, and can take Cecil out on the lake, up Mt. Mansfield, and basically show him one helluva good time.

Midwesterner checking in...

If Cecil wants to check out the Nation's Crossroads -- he can come visit me in central Indiana. MagicalSilverKey was trying to arrange a HoosierDopefest -- but haven't heard anything lately.

If CTB happens to visit during the second week of August (tho he looks pretty booked!) -- he can come with us to the west coast of Michigan as well...

E-mail in profile....

Will this box be large enough so I can mail myself along with Cecil? I've always wanted to see the world!

Now, a world-wide trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to Charleston. Maybe this can be the one way I get sidle to come out of hiding!

Add my name to the list. Email on the way!
