This thread is for those of you who’ve signed up to host the Bearster, and for those of you who’ve e-mailed me to ask what the hell is going on with this, anyway. Original thread is here.
Cecil winged (wang?) his way to Edmonton, Alberta, for a fun-filled visit with the beautiful and talented CANADIANSUE. Then he was dispatched, hungover but happy, to PUNKYOVA in the Twin Cities for an appearance at the early June Porkapalooza, an event I understand was tons o’fun.
Then he disappeared. Cue Twilight Zone music: Deedeedeedee
Sue swore on a sixpack of Molson she’d sent him. Punky swore by the Great Golden Gopher she’d never received him. Fortunately, Sue had insured his furry ass, something I hadn’t asked her to do but now am very grateful she did, and she tracked him down.
He’s at the Undeliverable Mail Centre of Canadian Mail. Why, we don’t know. Sue included ample postage and sent him to the correct address. Maybe he mouthed off at the border, I don’t know – you know how sarcastic Dopers can be. They are sending him back to Sue and she will try again to get him back to America.
The plan at this point is to still send him to Punky if she wants him (even thoug Pork-dope is over), and perhaps she and maybe other Twin Cities Dopers can show him around. I’ll check with her on that; if she’s not interested, he’ll go somewhere else. Obviously his schedule will have to be totally reworked due to his little act of rebellion, but I still plan to send him to Australia at the end of the summer to enjoy the warm weather there and meet The Loaded Dog and our other (far) southern brethren.
So that’s the story. Sue will let me know what the hell happened when she hears. But I would like to make it known to all that CanadianSue rocks in every way it is possible to rock.

Well, next week, hubby is taking the boat and moving to Baltimore - no it’s not a bitter parting - he got a job up there that was too good to turn down. Anyway, that means I won’t have a life for the next coupla years, so I look forward to Cecil’s arrival to give me something to occupy my lonely days. Yeah, I still have the Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup], but she seems to think she needs her own life, the uppity young 'un!
He is definitely headed your way FCM. Like most other single Dopers, he’s always got an eye out for the hook-up, and so he’s especially anxious to meet FairyChatMoose.
You didn’t hear this from me. But I have it on good authority that Cecil the Bear was caught trying to smuggle smokes in from our neighbor to the north.
I’m still psyched for his visit! Don’t forget, oh hosts of Cecil, I’m ready to put a Cecil The Bear website together as soon as I get some pictures of CTB, maybe some of his journal enteries, fond memories from all of you, etc etc etc. My e-mail is in my profile.
Dunno, KIT – Still no sign of him. Time to check with the Sue-miester again. I’m not sure when Bamadope is, and I’ll be sending him to The Punkyova first, so I don’t know if he’ll make it or not. Clearly the Bear is not sticking to his itinerary, but eventually he’ll make it around to everyone. I hope.
EONWE, I haven’t forgotten your offer, but so far there’s not pix to post or anything, 'cause he’s locked in his box in a Canada Post Prison.
Well, Cecil The Bear took his own sweet time getting to St. Paul – no fault on either end, but I think he hopped a series of freight trains to get there.
But THE PUNKYOVA has been squiring him around, and I hope he’s had a nice time. Perhaps THE PUNKYOVA will drop by and tell us how things went. Hint, hint (What, too subtle?)
Next stop: Beautiful Florida for some fun in the sun with FAIRYCHATMOM and that stuffed moose o’love FAIRYCHATMOOSE. After that, CTB heads to 'Stralia for some upside down fun in the sun with THELOADEDDOG and such various other Aussie Dopers who want to host/corrupt him. This is assuming TLD still wants to take on the (un)awesome and (un)sobering task of putting up and putting up with the little guy, which I’m frankly not sure of because he (TLD) hasn’t answered my e-mail. Hint, hint. (What, still too subtle?)
Anyway, reports of CTB’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Assuming he goes to Australia, I’m not sure how long he’ll be (don’t know where he’s going, and all that), and I don’t know where he’s going next, but if anyone else would like to volunteer to host him at some unknown date in the future, I’d be happy to add you to the list. Everyone who already volunteered (you fools!) is still on the list, though at this rate he may be an old gray bear by the time he sees everyone. (Which, by the way, is totally fine – this is his life’s work, and I don’t intend to hurry him around the globe.)
I’m going to see if I can wrangle some pix of his first two stops and find away to post them, but I don’t have any yet. More bulletins as events warrant.
I feel honor-bound to clarify that I only e’d TLD this morning, and he very likely hasn’t even seen it yet. So his failure to answer is not a personal slight. I hope. I mean, so far as I know.
