Recently, there was a list of women whom men found surprisingly attractive--you know, not the usual types like supermodels--I know Hilary Clinton made the list.
So, fellow female posters (of course if a guy wants to post, that's ok too.)--who are the men you find surprisingly attractive?
I'll volunteer mine:
Bill Nye the Science Guy--he's intelligent, he's funny, he's active--on his show, he's always riding bikes, rowing boats, bungee jumping, etc.

Drew Carey--I love a man with a sense of humor.

I don't know the name of the guy, but there was an episode of "Ally McBeal" where Ally was pursued by an overweight man. He wasn't grotesquely overweight, but he was a big, biiiiig boy.

Despite the fact that the whole focus of the show was how Ally was repulsed by him, I found him absolutely adorable (as a character, at least). He was a genuine, gentle romantic, unpretentious and kind. Oh. Oh yeah. He was engaged at the time of his pursuit of Ally (but, only because he believed he would never deserve/get the "pretty girl").

I would've dated him! (Once he called it off with his fiance)

Don't know if he counts (because, really, he was on People magazine's most handsome list) but Jim Carey. Most people look at me funny, but he gorgeous! Also the guy that does Blue's Clues on Nick Jr. He's adorable in a dorky kind of way.

Just like how I think Anthony Edwards from ER is cute, in sort of a dorky way? Same with Adam Sandler. He's a huge spaz, but I still can't help but think he's adorable.

Gail, you're not alone! I,too, think Drew Carey is cute! I'd date him in a second.
Ben Stein gets my vote, too!

I was surprised at how much more attractive in person Jay Leno is than on television. He's not my type, and does nothing for me when I see him on the tube, but in person he has this charisma or something that really interests and attracts me.

Yes, Yes! Scott Bakula - yum!

Another personal favorite is Tom Conti - although I don't know if that would be surprising?

Jeff Goldblum, Mike Myers, Greg Kinnear, John De Lancie (Q from Star Trek), Tim Curry, Gary Oldman, Aidan Quinn, Al Pacino, Anthony LaPaglia, Mini-Me, Christopher Lambert, Julian Sands, Brian Setzer, Thomas Dolby, Dave Matthews, Robert Carlyle, Liam Neeson, Samuel L. Jackson, Gabriel Byrne, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, Nicholas Cage, Keifer Sutherland, Judd Nelson, Oliver Platt, and Brandon Lee.

That's all I could come up with for now... ok, so some of them aren't surprisingly attractive, but I went on a tangent...

Torgo -- I forgot about that self-styled Mrs. Letterman, haha. Luckily for him my hands are full stalking this ballplayer.

I'm gonna have to second on Steve Buscemi, and third on Scott Bacula. I'm also going to add Trey Parker, while I'm thinking about it.

I'm going to have to agree with you guys that think David Letterman is very attractive. Also I think Liam Neeson, Adam Sandler, Hugh Grant, Mike Myers, and Ben Stein's trust sidekick, I can't remember exactly, but I think his name is Jimmy, or something like that. And of course, David Duchovney, but that's not at all surprising.

David Foley (formerly of Kids in the Hall and News Radio). Looks very preppy and conservative, but at heart he's the weirdest guy on the planet. Very sexy. He's the only "celebrity" I would actually consider dating.

I totally agree with the people who said Steve Buscemi and Trey Parker. I thought of a few more, too:

Jonny Mosely (does anyone remember him?)
Jerry Cantrell
Eddie Vedder
Matt Dillon
Ryan Stiles
Jimmy Kimmell
Dan Marino (aging well)
Samuel L. Jackson

Alot of the guys I find attractive aren't surprising..ie Dylan McDermott, Duncan Sheik, etc...

The ones who aren't seen as "handsome leading man" who I find attractive are:
John Cusack (my favorite actor. Sure, he's the often leading man but I've never seen anyone make a big deal about how good looking he is...except me )
Henry Thomas (he's all grown up now)
Robert Sean Leonard ("Dead Poet's Society")
Jonny Lee Miller ("Trainspotting")
Ilan Mitchell-Smith (Wyatt from "Weird Science" who is apparently now a professor in English Lit.)
I gotta agree with:
Dave Foley, Dr Drew, and Tom Conti

Which one are you referring to? John Cusack played an assassin in one film but he's also played a reporter, air traffic controller, politician, and, often, a misunderstood teenager.
Robert Sean Leonard played a Nazi in one movie but I know him best from other films.
Henry Thomas played Norman Bates but I just saw him in "Niagara, Niagara"

Oh! And I gotta add Kevin Spacey. He was Kaiser Soze, you know

So your joke wasn't wasted on me but it took me alittle while to get it...duhhhhh

*thinks* um, nope, don't remember seeing any hot assassins

Well I think Ed Asner is particularly attractive (from Mary Tyler Moore fame) and Drew Carey too. I would date either of them in a second. I must admit the younger Ed was a bit nicer, especially when he had a beard (I can't remember the name of the movie I saw him in with a beard.) <YUM!> I am seeing a pattern here.

I don't know if any of these are surprising or not:

Richard Dean Anderson
Clint Black
Dennis Quaid
Dennis Miller (at times)
Michael Ironsides (Is that his name?)
Scott Bakula
Geraint Wyn-Davies (sp?)
Ben Bass
Dirk Benedict
Antony Hamilton
Jon-Erik Hexum
Jeffrey Meek
Michael T. Weiss

That's all I can think of right now.

Michael J. Fox (till I found out he smokes), and Dennis Miller (till he started doing those incredibly annoying phone company commercials). And does anyone remember Carl Betz, who played Donna Reed's husband--oh, oh--and the gorgeous Guy Williams, from Zorro and Lost in Space! The Professor from Gilligan's Island wasn't bad, either. I don't see the attraction, but a lot of women (and not a few men) have told me they found Speed Racer very sexy.

I loved Zero Effect and here I thought I was the only person on the planet that rented it. Bill Pullman has that sexy gravely voice thing going at times that just is so spine melting.

I also forgot: Vince Vaughn.

A few more:
Patrick Stewart--I love his voice..and my dad has done that combover thing for years--It's nice to see someone that doesn't mind being bald.

Definitely Scot Bakula--I used to watch Quantum Leap all the time...and it wasn't because of the fascinating plot lines!

I think Bono is attractive since he cut that long stringy hair...Some men just don't look good in long hair.

voguevixen, I agree - David Letterman is sexy!

I have erotic dreams about a few different celebrities. The two who would fall in the "surprisingly attractive" category are David Letterman and the artist formerly known as Prince.

I figure anyone who sings about sex as much as TAFKAP must know what he's doing in the sack. But if I ever met him in real life, I don't think he'd be as sexy. I'm 3 inches taller than him and I'm sure I outweigh him.
That would be a turn-off.

Falcon... DAVE MATTHEWS! Ohmigod he is so sexy... did you see the VH1 Storytellers he did? Flirting with the girl in the crowd, talking about being naked in the hotel hallway...

::drool::

Second the Dennis Quaid but I bet he doesn't count.

Drain Bead, I agree on Beck. Something about ruddy-cheeked guys! Don't get me started.

How about the red-haired guitarist (or bassist) of the band Lit? In their video for "My Own Worst Enemy" they're dressed in 70s retro stuff and this guy is just *sexy*.

But I've got a thing for redheads, too.

Canthearya - No, my cable went out the day it was supposed to be on! Oh well, gives me another reason to try and find it again, I suppose. However, he does his fair share of flirting at the concerts, and I've seen...7 so far. (No. 8 on August first! Woohoo!) He's sexy, and the second he opens his mouth and starts singing.....*sigh*.

And I never took a good look at the bassist in Lit - I was too much a fan of the lead singer.

I have to agree with the votes for John Cusack, Dr. Drew, Dennis Miller, Adam Sandler, Anthony Edwards, Dave Matthews, Trey Parker, Michael Biehn, Dave Foley, and Beck.

I can't believe I forgot this one. My only excuse is that I don't find him surprisingly attractive, but other people are surprised that I find him attractive.

To put it this way: I am a college student, and I have exactly one poster up in my room (although I'm still waiting to get sticky-tack so I can put up my 12 Urban Legends poster). It's Conan O'Brien's milk ad. I love Conan. I love that growly noise he makes at pretty girls. I love his self-effacing sense of humor. Conan is completely adorable to me.
