Want to take a stab at who will post #4,000,000?
Which Forum?
What time and date?

Looks like it could happen within 48 hours to me.

In this forum.

I’m going to shoot for it.

Welcome, keke!

My previous post was #4,103,173. That means the post that counts as #4,000,000 will have “postid#” 4,103,573 or thereabouts.

Things are moving quickly enough that catching the specific post my prove problematic.

Any ideas on how we can do that?

It’ll be me.

Okay. I think I have a solution to the problem of isolating who posted 4,000,000 and where and when.

I kept refreshing the Forums Home page until I got a situation where the individual posts shown by forum had one with a unique time. The shown post count had to refer to that post. I used the info on that post to go check the postid# involved. I did that twice. The gap is 103,566 between postid# and the post count on Forums Home.

That means the 4,000,000th post will have postid# of 4,103,566. (Unless there’s a drift within the next few hours between those numbers, and I don’t plan on checking again to see.)

I’ll try to be on hand when the Forums Home page shows 4,000,000. Then I’ll isolate the latest posts to each forum and check which one has postid# 4,103,566. I’ll announce the winner in this thread as soon as I can do all that.

I won’t be able to do all that and make the 4,000,000th post myself. That’s the price I’ll pay for knowing. BFD!

Are the extra 103,566 messages to moderators and the like?

I would assume they’re deleted posts from whatever sources. Those “secret posts” could also account for some of them. I get the feeling that different counters are in place for the different stats and that they’re independent.

Just guessing, of course.

Any better ideas, anybody?

Is there a prize for being 4,000,000th?

If not, it still would make one way cool sig.

Not that I know of, Aries28, unless we do it as an unofficial thing.

I think it’s freakin’ amazing that the deleted and/or “invisible” posts alone number over 100,000.

They’re flying by! I may not be able to snap the page at 4,000,000!

Help!

Do we have a winner yet?

All times are GMT -6 hours. The time now is 10:47 AM.

If I got this correctly, the 4,000,000th post was made by Rooves in GD at 10:47 AM SDMB (Central) time.

See if this link works.

I located the post by typing in 4103566 into the URL. Is that correctly done?

If your math is correct, I think it would be the second message of a double-post (third in a series) by Rooves in this thread.

Yeah, I found it by clicking on a “quote” button, and changing the postid at the end of the URL to the postid you deduced. Your link didn’t transport me to the specific post. You can check exactly which post it was (since it was part of a double-post) by hovering over the “quote” button on the posts and reading the postid from the status bar.

I thought you meant when would one person reach their 4,000,000th post.

I figured it would be Eve in the year 2049 announcing the tragic death of the old film star, Pauly Shore.

Thanks, troub, for the double-check. Yeah, I saw that the specific post wasn’t where the link went, but it did get to the right thread for postid# 4103566. It had to be somebody, and if it wasn’t Rooves, then he/she was at least close by.

It’s amazing that in the refresh I did before it went to 4,000,004, it was at 3,999,998. One click’s worth and six posts had gone by.

I think it might be worth mentioning that (from that snapshot above) either voguevixen, Eve, Aries28, or vanilla was close to the winning number.

In fact, if anybody else can find that their postid# was in the vicinity of 4103566, they are to be honored and congratulated as such.

I suspect I’ll miss Eve’s 4,000,000th if it waits until 2049 to happen!
