TubaDiva is originally from Virigina, although she's now living in Georgia, and she often dresses up as Santa Claus at our Straight Dope Science Advisory Board Holiday Parties, like Fourth of July, which holiday makes no nevermind, she's in her Santa suit. Anyway, at one such party, when she was in her Santa outfit, conversation happened to be about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, way back when (conversations at Staff Affairs can be somewhat esoteric), and how it had totally destroyed Pompeii. TubaDiva was very upset to learn that Pompeii had been totally destroyed by a volcano, and she worried that her home state of Virginia might have been similarly wiped out, and so had to be reassured: "Yes, Santa Claus, there is a Virginia."
