It seems that TubaDiva has a really, really hard time with sick humor. I guess there are some people that do - though I’m not sure the net is a good place for them, as in the last ten years of my experience on it, the place can get pretty free-wheeling. And I think that’s a good thing, frankly. But anyway…
I have, in the past, expressed my disgust and diapproval for TubaDiva’s actions, even though I would tend to agree with them myself. Last time she got all worked up over a tasteless joke (do a search on “llamasex rape”) I stomped off in a huff. This time I figure they’ll have to ban me if they dislike me talking about why I think she’s over-reacting - and wildly.
Hell, why am I trying to sugarcoat this. Let’s get brutally honest here:
In my considered opinion, TubaDiva is a goose-stepping fascist with no sense of humor, and a tolerance for differences of opinion that it would be chairitable to call “fair weather.”
I would also like to take a cheap shot here, and say that by all apearances it happens to be “that time of month” for her. (Was that tasteless? Yes, I believe it was…)
Now, as for the follow-up post by Sr. Zotti…
Looks like it’s time for another rule. If we read anything that in our opinion is too appalling to see the light of day, we’ll close it immediately.
Fair enough. It’s your message board, and you get to control the content here. I disagree with your particular tastes, but hell, I’m free to set up my own web board if I don’t like it.

That’s a bit draconian, don’t you think? What if they didn’t know they crossed the line? I understand that you think your standards are very clear and precise, but unless you write them down or give some kind of guideline, that line between acceptable and unacceptable can be very thin. Depending perhaps on nothing more than the mood of the mod at the moment s/he sees the posting. Is that really how you want to run things?
- Please don’t ask us to define what is and isn’t revolting - we’ll know it when we see it.*
Oh, my bad! Indeed, I AM supposed to read your mind, and just automatically know what’s acceptable or not, even though you’ve never told me, and apparently can’t even define it yourself. Thanks for that clarification. Nice to know that “arbitrary/whatever we feel like” is the stated policy here at the SDMB.
Well, again, “your board, your rules.” But I’m afraid I’m not going to give you any points for attempting to make your own or anyone else’s life easy by having clear, consistent standards for… well, anything apparently.
If you’ve read the SDMB for any length of time, you know we’re pretty tolerant, but even we have limits.
Having limits is not the problem. Telling people "don’t do bad things, or else, and by the way we’re not going to tell you what “bad things” are!"is the problem. Let me say this flat out: you’re being unreasonable. And again, while it’s your board and you certainly have the right to be completely and totally unreasonable, I would expect a reasonably intelligent person would not act that way. (Which I find ironic, as this board is ostensibly about fighting ignorance and fostering intelligence…)
