Please tell me this isn't true

Student sells virginity to pay for university

I cannot believe that this girl would consider this as a possibility. I mean I’m going to university soon and I know I will get considerable debts but nothing that can’t be repayed. I mean she gave up something so irreplacable and meaningful to a 44 YEAR OLD for a bit of financial security, which will probably have lasting effects on her in later life. It’s prostitution on a sad level.

:frowning:

That is all.

Sad, but could be true.

I knew of at least one girl at my college who was, quite frankly, paying for college by prostitution.

I worked with a man one who told me he paid for his bachelor’s and master’s degree through male prostitution.

I can’t approve of this, but it does happen.

Well, I never thought of my virginity as either of the above. From reading the link it seems maybe this wasn’t the best idea for her, but I don’t see anything intrinsically horrible about it.

Well, obviously she saw it differently. I agree it’s kind of sad, but I’ve heard more than one story of women stripping to make money for college. The money can be good.

Besides, that first time wasn’t much fun at all for me.

I don’t want to jump to the wrong conclusion. By your singular use caps above, you’re not suggesting that the worst part of her actions is that she “gave up something so . . . meaningful to a 44 YEAR OLD” are you? I assume you would see her actions as equally sad if she had sold her virginity to a 24 year old, or a 34 year old.

It’s not true.

You’re welcome. Do you feel better now?

Disclaimer: I know absolutely nothing about this story, just acceeding to the request in the title of the OP.

Acceeding to a request without knowing all the facts could lead to something you may regret: such as losing your virginity.

Assuming this is true, I feel sorrier for the poor schmuck who paid nearly $12,000 for her unenthusiastic services. Selling your body may be morally questionable, but it * was * her choice. She balanced the options of one night in bed versus years of scrimping to pay off her student loans and made a decision. But bitching about it afterwards and complaining how horrible the experience was * is just not classy *.

And in a related (though not as current) story, Brown University in 1986 had a “prostitution ring” scandal:

I think it’s sad that she regretted it from the moment it happened.

But I don’t understand the big deal everyone makes over it being her virginity. So what? Most of the girls I know lost their virginity to some moron in high school, and about half of them soon had their hearts broken by said guy. Oooh, that’s a much better experience.

And frankly, this girl made a choice. Maybe it was a rotten choice, but she made it. I read all the time about women who are raped, or molested as children and lost their virginity that way. That’s who I give my sympathy to. Not some girl who paid for half of school by sleeping with a guy once, by her own decision.

Hmm… My brother did his accounting degree at Bristol… now I’m wondering what he did to pay for school

Seriously, though- correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t HM gov’t pretty much take care of University for you through grants and what not?

As I understand it, many people are wondering whether or not this is real, or just a stunt put out by a paper.

  1. What’sa matter with 44 year-olds?!?  (note: am not 44)

  2. What is the happy level of prostitution?

Meh, people are insane.
Hopefully (dunno why I say hopefully, I don’t know if it would make this better) she didn’t shag this bloke, but is lying to the newspaper and getting paid for the story.

Personally I don’t know why she didn’t just do a “mutually beneficial arrangement” with a rich foreign gay guy. Could have gotten more cash and not had to fuck anyone.

I didn’t mean about the age, just the circumstances. As Really Not All That Bright was saying in the UK we’re pretty much taken care of in terms of University debts. All of the debts are interest free (except inflation) and are only repayed directly from your wages when you earn X amount. I can understand some people do it because they have to. She didn’t. I understand those who do it out of a panicked spur-of-the-moment thing they regret later. She planned it. And now look what has happened. That’s all I can say really.

When I leave university I will be in £12 000 of debt. My boyfriend will probably be in a little more. But there’s no way I would have even considered doing what she has supposed to have done.

If it is true, this is a very sad story.

I think it’s £15 000 a year when you start having to re pay the students loans.

I’m not seeing the big deal here.

The story probably isn’t true, and even if it is, so what? Girl made 1200 GBP and got to go to university, just for a few uncomfortable moments with some skeezy dude. I wish my job were that undemanding and lucrative.

Nobody forced her to do this; she made the choice, and if she regrets it, well, welcome to the real world. Things don’t always turn out just as we’d like them to.

As for her virginity, it is technically irreplacable, but if you’re one of those fortunate types with more money than brain cells, you can have your hymen surgically reconstructed. Meaningful? shrug If you think so. Most people I have talked to (check the boards, there’ve been many threads on just this topic) have stated that their “first time” was actually kind of yucky and embarassing, and led only to heartbreak and a ruined pair of panties. So since regret is pretty much in the bag no matter who she “lost it” to, you decide which is ultimately the better deal:

  1. Losing one’s virginity to some drunken lout at a teenaged party and get nothing for it but memories you’d rather not have;

OR

  1. Losing one’s virginity to some schmo willing to shell out quite a bit of cash for the privilege and getting you some edumacation.

I’ll take Door #2, please.

What would really suck is if she wasn’t even a virgin in the first place, and this poor pervert just wasted his 1200 GBP. Although since publicly selling her coochie snorcher to the highest bidder technically qualifies as prostitution, anyone who believes what a prostitute is telling them to make a sale probably deserves to be robbed.

The girl also describes herself as a lesbian. Now, I enjoy the occasional lesbian fantasy as much as the next straight guy, but in reality? I can’t think of anyone who’d be worse in bed than a virgin lesbian prostitute. That’s three reasons right there why she’s going to be less than enthusiastic in bed. And on top of all that, she got paid approximatly 1000 times the going rate from prostitution! That’s way too much money for a vastly inferior product. Where’s the Better Business Bureau when you need it?

And who was the guy who agreed to this? I’ve got a couple bridges he might be interested in buying…

I think it’s interesting that they mention her being a lesbian several times. I kind of thought the implication there was that she was only technically a virgin, i.e. her hymen had not been broken, or at least not by penile penetration. For all we (and Mr.44-year-old) know, she has had other types of sex. This seems like a fairly spurious definition of virginity to me, but I certainly knew lots of girls in high school who believed it.

Oh, and incidently, the term “Coochie Snorcher” is quite excellent. I must find a way to use that in conversation.
