The Exclusive '99 Club.

Yes folks.

Finally, a thread devoted entirely to the people who joined the SDMB in the last millennium.

A thread created for the people that have been members here for five plus years.

A place where us “veteran posters” can talk about, joke about, bitch about, point and laugh at, tease and taunt all the newbie posters, (ie ppl who joined after Jan 2000)

A thread where we can laugh at their newbie antics, where us old fogies can kick back and reminisce about the “good ol’ days” back in 1999, and how it was such a simpler time back then.

A place where post counts simply don’t matter. The only qualification is that you joined in 1999.

Soooo… Let me be the first to welcome you to the exclusive 1999 club.

I guess I started the thread, so that makes me the Club President.
I suppose my duties will be to supervise the newbie joke content, and assure that the barbs that are posted maintain a certain scathing quality, while still not crushing the fragile emotions of the newbie poster.

Who wants to start? Anyone wanna be VP? There are still a lot of good ’99 club administrative positions available.
If you qualify, state your self-appointed club position, and duties you expect to perform, if any.

And…. Best of all… there is no cost to join.

[sub](Remember - just the folks who joined in 1999. - So you kids stay outta my yard dagnabit!)[/sub]

Nyah Nyah. :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought this was going to be about the Ninety-Nines. (I’m the wrong gender to be a member, and I missed out on membership in this club by a few months.)

Or I missed it by one month. I’d thought I’d joined in March 2000.

I was lurking in '99, but didn’t register until later. I belong here dammit!

sits down on the floor and refuses to move

Same here, Anonymous Coward. How ARE you going to account for us, huh, meek? Huh? Huh? Huh?

sorry, I was channelling my yellow lab for a second there

Seriously, I expect a lot of us lurked before posting. I know I was around the boards in 1999, but I wasn’t actively posting. And I briefly lurked on the AOL boards back in the day.

So…sitting down with Anonymous Coward

meek, as such a longtime member you should know when the millenium really ended. If not I could link you to the probably THOUSANDS of posts here discussing it.

Sorry, I can’t hear you newbies… but if I could, I’d tell ya lurking doesn’t count.

Security!! Security!!! Remove the newbies!

Um… Anyone want to sign up for security officer?
That is… anyone that joined in 1999 want to be security officer?

I’ll be back a little later. With some back-up! You newbies better be gone by the time I get back.

[sub] Pssst - Dropzone - I know that… I was just testing the newbies… heh heh - Really![/sub]

Man, this sucks! I actually did join in December '99, but there was a board outage, passwords were lost, and my user name was lost. An admin had to reset it for me…in January 2000.

I never qualify for all these cool cliques! :frowning:

Yes?

One 99’er checking in. But I then lurked for about a year before actually starting to post.

Then again, I was welcomed to the board by Coldfire, so that’s pretty cool.

Huh. I was welcomed by Cecil. Is this a club designed to lord our longevity over all of the “Charted Members”, some of whom may have only joined the boards last week?

I simply cannot join. Out of conscience. I’m so ashamed of my '99 status because there were so many people who just couldn’t make it on time. Why should they have to endure the sort of unspeakable humiliation that comes from being an '00? Ask yourself whether you would do this to your own children. I respectfully request that the admins change my status from '99 to 'Sorry I Was Ever Born.

Can we have a secret handshake?

You mean we don’t already have one?

Kewl - ok Sassy can be Club VP.

Duke is the thread Chief Security Officer responsible for keeping the other newbies out of the thread. Welcome Duke!
[sub]and… Who the heck is Coldfire?[/sub]

Weird Dave; Exactly. This a club designed to lord our longevity over all of the “Newbie Charted Members”. Want in? We have beer…

Lib is a member by simply posting to this thread. Sorry bud. No refunds.

Bricker: Yes! You can be in charge of Research & Development of the secret handshake. It MUST be secret - so don’t post it here.

TwistofFate: No handshake yet. Check with Bricker. How about you come up with a catchy slogan?

Welcome all '99er’s. <insert slogan here>

Well, I suppose I’ll participate if I am forced to, but I intend to feel guilty about it.

Another '99 lurker, checking in.

That’s the spirit Lib!
There’s nothing like forced participation to whip up club moral. How about you handle the '99 Club’s social events calendar?

You can really play up that guilt theme… run with it.
Welcome to the club.

isn’t moving
