I was telling my wife about the Swim Mobile that used to come around when I was a kid back in Detroit. It was basically a semi that pulled a trailer but rather than a standard trailer it had, well a metal pool. It moved around, roughly six blocks per day, so you could count on it to be nearby at least twice a summer. There were probably moe than one, since Detroit was pretty large. Anyway I tried to goole it, but couldn’t find a pic, nor could I find it on Detroit’s web site. So can anybody support me on this? Did or does your community have one? Help me out my wife thinks I’m making it up.
Holy Cow!!! You’re not gonna belive this, but can you tell me how I can get a copy of that pic? I just showed it to my Mom, to just to be sure I was seeing what I think I see. That looks like a pic of me, my younger brother and Stepfather!! My mom is trying to clean it up in Photoshop, I’ll keep you guys posted.
Are you KIDDING me? How cool is that??
Well it looks like the person in charge of the website is Rose Love, and her email address appears to be: lover@po1.ci.detroit.mi.us
It’s the city of Detroit’s official website, so hopefully she can tell you how you can an actual copy of the photo.
Definitely let us (or me, if no one else joins this thread) know what you find out… That would be absolutely too wild!
I just e-mail the owner for more information on the picture, but my Mom and I are damn near convinced that we’re not imagining it. I just can’t believe my eyes. I just asked my Mom to scan an old pic of us that I’m going to post on my website so you can look. I’ll provide a link when it’s ready. I just can’t believe this.
If it turns out to be so… this will easily live on forever as one of the freakiest coincidences I’ve been a part of!
Well, that’s pretty cool. The only truck-fulla-water I ever saw was the Hawg Trough, a tank of largemouth bass that travels with the Boat, Sport, and Travel show. Professional fishermen clamber up on a little mockup of a boat at one end of it, and, with a wireless mike, patter the crowd on how to reel the lunkers into the boat. The last time I went to see one of those guys, a wiseguy in the audience had a laser pointer, which he used to lure the fishies away from the fisherman’s bait. He tried to ignore the wisenheimer, but, finally the rascal got to him. He reeled in his line, and he clipped off the pointy part of the hook. He whipped back the rod, and he zinged his lure right into the nervous part of the prankster’s lap. “Are you gonna behave yourself?,” he asked. The prankster gulped and dropped his laser pointer on the floor.
Once again a skeptical Doper spouse is humbled by the might powers of the SDMB.
I’d say the cost of your membership was well worth it this year, stuffy.
Wasn’t there a pool-truck on an episode of The Simpsons once? I believe Otto (the bus driver) was driving it, and it only stayed around for a few minutes of the entire summer. And Bart used a snorkle to try and stay in the pool after Otto took off. And when it wasn’t used for a kids pool (which is disgusting enough), it had some other much more disgusting use. Or I am imaging all that?
Anyhoo…
It’s an episode. Being in that pool caused Lisa and Bart to want one of their own, so they bug Homer into getting them one. Lisa then becomes popular and Bart breaks his leg.
[otto] Ohh, no can do, Bart-dude. I gotta get this sucker filled up with epsom salts and then jam on over to the old folks home! [/otto]

D’oh! :smack:
Damn, she’s good!
I’ve somehow forgotten that particular episode. I’ll see if I can Shanghai my wife into watching it. As an update, my Mom is convinced enough about the pic, that she’s using it on her messenger photo. I hope to hear from the web master tommorrow.
I also noticed I didn’t identify the people. “I” would be the kid closest on the left, with the guy being my stepfather. The kid directly behind “me” is my “younger brother Brian”, that’s who I recognized, my Mom ID’d “me” and my “stepfather”.
I used quote marks because i just totally weirded out that such an old pic of me would be on the net.
Holy crap, Stuffy. That’s incredible.
If it IS you and your family, I bet the owner of the photo will be tickled to finally put names to some of the faces as well.
Wow, I’m just popping in to say that this is an incredible story. TellMeI’mNotCrazy should get some sort of SDMB service award!
I guess now we’ll have to tell her she’s not crazy.
Something tells me I ought not hold my breath on that one
TellMeI’mNotCrazy can you tell me how you found this pic? My Mom’s driving me nuts, and so far the contact you gave me is unresponsive. I’m hoping I can get to the actual site it’s on and see if there are additional contacts.
