I’ll never understand this mentality and how you could think your cause to be just when you exhibit such barbaric behavior. My heart bleeds for Paul Johnson’s family and what they’re now forced to contemplate.

Not that the other beheadings (Pearl, Berg) exactly pleased me, but this incident is wrenching my gut a lot worse than the others. I think it’s because I was exposed to more images of Paul Johnson Jr. and his family and friends before the (alleged) beheading occurred.
Because A) they’re our putative allies and B) this is the work of terrorists, not the Saudi government.
Poor bastard. I can’t imagine how afraid he’s been the last 3 days, knowing full well what these people are capable of. He had more guts to stay in Saudi Arabia than I’ll ever have.
His poor family. 
I’m grateful that the Saudis held firm and wouldn’t negotiate. Not for Paul Johnson’s sake, may his soul rest in peace, but for the people who would come after him. As hard as it would be for me to bear if it were my dad, I hope I’d have enough sense left in me to realize that negotiating with terrorists just cannot be done, for everyone’s sake.

We can’t pull the trigger on the 99.9% of decent human beings that live there, but we sure as hell can stop making it easier for the bad apples to kill our people. Maybe these psychopaths would disappear once they had no one to prey on besides peaceful adherents to The Religion of Peace.

He was kind of loud and brash but a decent sort of guy. His wife is a nice person as well. The AQ guys that did it succeeded in their purpose of scaring people but I live in hope of going downtown and seeing them beheaded some day.

You mentioned public beheadings… how often does that happen and usually for which crimes does it occur?

As far as the public beheadings; they are for rape, murder, narcotics dealing and that’s about it. Serious crimes where it is tough to work up a lot of sympathy for the guy being executed. They happen fairly frequently, maybe twice a month in Riyadh. I’ve accidentally seen a couple of executions but for these guys I’d go watch.

Not not not not condoning this kind of behavior, but Johnson was working on Apache helicopters for the Saudi government. Personally, I don’t think scientists who work on creating weapons of war (or in other words, killing machines) are completely innocent (but that’s a Great Debate for another time). Unfortunately, these murderers felt more strongly on the subject.
Pretty sad and barbaric.
Just hope it doesn’t make anyone feel like sticking stuff up Iraqi prisoners.
Of course it’s going to, that’s the damn problem. Do you think soldiers are going to treat prisoners better or worse after this?
I absolutely despise GWB and his adventure into war, or his attempt to shore up his dick, or whatever the hell the voices in his head told him to do—but, IMHO our conduct towards our “prisoners” has already put us over the line. If that be so, which I believe it is, then we shouldn’t hold back. If we are dealing with a people who believe beheading is a just and noble endeavor, then, by whatever Gods there be, let’s show them a little beheading: three for one seems about right to me, at this moment. I know full well I will repent those words tomorrow, and maybe even later today but for now, a little eye for an eye seems apropriate.
