WHOOOMP! Earthquake?

It sure was. About 1:00 this morning I was sitting here, just quietly reading the good ol' SDMB, and it felt and sounded like somebody had slammed a giant door. The whole house shuddered briefly. About that time my son popped out of his bedroom, saying, "I think I've just lived through my first earthquake." We couldn't find anything on the news, but this morning they said it was a 4.5 temblor, centered about 80 miles from here. Just a little odd, to be sitting here and have that happen.

Thank goodness, no damage is being reported.

Dude, I live near there! I didn't feel it though. A friend of my brother's did. How cool is that? Us flatlanders get a piece of the action too!

I live in what was supposed to be in the affected area, but I haven't heard anything about it except for on Yahoo! and here. Figures, the one night I actually fall asleep before 2 am, and I missed something. *sigh*

We were supposed to feel it all the way down here? Man, I missed another one.

There was one that hit when I lived in Wellington, IL back around 1987 or so. I was pulling plaster and slats out of the living room in preparation for remodeling, so I was very active... I heard my neighbor come out of his house letting out a whoop and a holler. So, I head outside and ask him what was wrong, and he told me that he'd been napping on the sofa, when the house just started shaking. Scared him so bad he fell off the sofa. I started to doubt him when other neighbors came out and said they'd felt it too.

Now you tell me I slept through one. Man.

Diamonds, you frustrate me. It seems like I probably know you IRL, or at least live very, very close. Anyway, that's not really the issue. The way I understood it, we were supposed to, but I could be wrong.

See? They aren't the big deal y'all thought they were, after all.

I have a friend in Tennessee who swears he would never live in California because of the earthquakes. "But, honey, they happen in Tennessee ALL THE TIME!" Even linked the USGS for him, but since he's never really felt them, he refuses to believe he lives close to a fault line.

When my niece, her friend and I checked out of a Milwaukee hotel early this morning the desk clerk asked if we felt the earthquake. He said he'd gotten calls from several other people in the hotel when it happened. The niece and her friend were still up eating pizza at the time and didn't feel a thing. We were on the third floor.

Yeah, sweetie, I've been known to have that affect on people.

You probably know my kids

I think I've figured out where you live, Diamonds, after reviewing some of your posts. Pamida gave it away I don't know if I would know your kids or not, I don't make it up north all that often.
