Trying to find out how many Middle Tennessee Dopers there are.
Post!
I’ve noticed that TN dopers don’t like to identify themselves as such. Not so much Middle TNians as West TNians. A few months ago when that tornado hit Memphis, a whole bunch of people posted to the thread, and before that, had not given any indication they where TNians. But that’s Memphis in a nutshell.
HI!
… here’s one. Nashville, born and raised… which makes me in the distinct minority here nowadays. ;>
That’s because as soon as we mention Memphis, people start doing bad Elvis impersonations at us. So we try to avoid the question of where we’re from all together.

Hi, I’m a Middle Tennessee Doper.
Howdy!
Also Nashville born and raised, unlike everyone else (except lokij apparently) who just moved here from parts unknown.
Hi.
Well Hi,
(Ok so I live in West TN but right on the TN river. I mean that’s close enough isn’t it? I take my boat to the other side fairly often.)
I started that thread. Look at my location. I’m proud to live in Memphis, and I know several other Dopers who are, too. But, just like clockwork, whenever you mention Memphis to hick rural Tennesseans, they get all high and mighty. “Oh, you live in Memphis! It must be sooooo dangerous there!” That’s because, in their world “a city with a lot of black people” = “dangerous”.
I feel safer here than at home, but I’m from McMinnville.
Yeah I hear that all the time.
Me: I went to Memphis this weekend.
Coworker: OMG I don’t ever go to Memphis. It’s soooo dangerous.
Me: mmmmmm…kay. Go there all the time. Never had a problem.
Coworker: Well you’re from Philadelphia. You’re used to all the blacks.
Me:
Because everybody knows where ever there are blacks there is more crime. :dubious:
I’ve never heard that Memphis is dangerous. I love Memphis, and most people who live there are proud of it. But, Memphis has always set it’s self apart from the rest of the state, (which may be a good thing). Atlanta is the same way, so maybe it’s common with all states.
Calm down vibrotronica. I assume that sense you bothered to quote me, that you had actually read my post. But I guess not.
Hi! There, ya happy?
Greetings, all!
Lived most of my life in Nashville, not there now, though.
Another Memphian here, so I’m about as far west as you can go and still be in Tennessee. Then again my soon-to-be-mother-in-law is in Spring Hill, so I’m there or in Nashville at least every few months.
Why aren’t most of you telling where exactly you are from in Middle Tennessee? I’m not from there but went to college there (Sewanee). I also have a second home in Memphis (on Walnut Grove; close to the main library).
Murfreesboro, here.
Gallatin, same as **Tuckerfan. **
Here! M’boro, now. Formerly Smyrna. Born and raised up North, though.
Anyone want to buy a 3-bedroom starter home in Smyrna?
StG
Murfreesboro here.
