ATI video card won't recognize video input

My new computer has an ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 video card, which I bought specifically for video capture & editing. Today, for the first time, I hooked up my TiVo (actually it’s a cheap knockoff my crappy cable company gave me, I’ll call it NoTaTiVo from now on) and to make a long story short, the computer will NOT recognize any video input.

I tried updating ATI’s multimedia software, no dice. (In fact, it made things worse – when it prompts me to run “PC Check” to find the problem, the program crashes now.) Tried installing new drivers, and not only did that not work either, I’ve now got about five “unknown devices” in my Device Manager profile…which I had to manually disable to keep the “New Hardware Found” window from popping up. The only help found on ATI’s website is to make sure the cables are attached properly. They are.

I don’t know what’s left to do except call tech support, which of course is a long distance number (where is the 905 area code, anyway?) or a $1.25/min. 900 number, and they’re not open until Monday anyway. It’s a bit urgent since I’m also having a reception issue which Adelphia claims is the NoTaTiVo’s fault and they want me to replace it. (I think they’re lying, but they won’t help me beyond replacing the NoTaTiVo…and the next available house call is in two weeks, of course!) So I’ve got 2 weeks to capture & burn about 30 hours worth of material…

Oh yeah: I’ve got Windows XP, P4/2.8ghz, 1gb ram, 160GB & 200GB Maxtor HDs, SB Audigy 2, etc…

You need to stabilize the install before you can diagnose whether it’s the card or the input. Is the video card sharing an IRQ(s) with other devices or not?

Re the drivers I believe there is a “ATI CATALYST Uninstaller1.0 for Video & Graphic Cards.” you can use to scrub an start fresh.

If the install is stabilized try using a known good input source like a video camera or a VCR befor trying the notaTIVO.
