2nd: The Mailbag: Questions, Comments, Requests & Asides
-
From Mojo: “That version of The Walk done with a kazoo (anyone know where this is from?)”
From what I can see, it might be Track #4 / Disc #2 of The Cure-Greatest Hits (With Bonus CD) subtitled: The Live Unplugged Version). -
From: elfkin477: “Hey Girl Hey Boy - Any idea why the “here we go” part never fails to make me think of Super Mario Brothers?”
Perhaps even a little more so than Jane Addiction’s ‘Stop’ does from Ritual De Lo Habitual. But then again, I shouldn’t comment, because my knowledge of video games is as close to nil as it can get. -
From: elfkin477: “I know more songs by the Catherine Wheel that many of the bands that have been up the last couple of weeks…Commander Cody? Camper Van Beethoven? Blue Ridge Rangers? Alex Chilton? I’ve never even heard of them”
For the record: Three out of four of those bands we polled were other Doper’s requests. The only one that wasn’t: The John Fogerty / Blue Ridge Rangers poll from a couple of weeks ago. We had room and I squeezed it in alongside CCR so that people wouldn’t complain about having to choose between Fogerty’s solo work and stuff from Creedence. If you have MMJB or another Internet radio service, it wouldn’t hurt to do an artist match on either Camper Van Beethoven or Chilton’s band; Big Star – you just might like what you hear. -
From moggyAU: “6 – Butterfly”
I can’t find a track by The Cure entitled ‘Butterfly’ anywhere on the net – even on rarity and bootleg sites. For tabulation purposes, I’m gonna assume you meant ‘The Caterpillar’. -
From spiralscratch: “Oh, and seeing as we are currently in “C”, how about a poll for Catherine Wheel?”
Technically, neither paulberserker, Ludovic nor stpauler seconded your request – but elfkin477 did. Truth is; I have most of their stuff in my collection and would have seconded it myself. I had Catherine Wheel penciled in – but it’s now officially your poll request. -
From Tit Whistle: “And we’re doing a Dead Kennedys poll but no Dead Milkmen? BOGUS!”
Blow it out your hairdo, cause you work Hardees! I figured it would have taken about 2 hours after the tentative schedule was announced to see a Dead Milkmen request. By my calculations you were 14 hours late. It’s done. See the revisions below. -
From Treviathan: “Since the Ds are approaching, could we do something on Death Cab for Cutie / The Postal Service?”
Great idea. I second it. See the tentative schedule revisions below for more details. -
From Treviathan: “And can we add Whiskeytown to the poll on Ryan Adams?”
Makes sense to me. I’m expecting to see both you and Only Mostly Dead in a month or so. -
From elfkin477: “When we get to D can we have a Dishwalla poll?”
Yet another great idea. I’ll second it. See the tentative schedule revisions below for more details. -
From elfkin477: “And (polls for) Cyndi Lauper and Cowboy Mouth to round out the Cs first?”
Yea to the latter. Nay to the former. You’ll have to remind me about Cyndi when we lurch toward the L’s – because she won’t come to mind voluntarily. -
From 42fish: Since we’re going back & doing all those jazz artists in week 46, any possibility for slipping in Chet Baker?
I have no concrete idea what the turnout will be during Jazz Week, but am gonna operate under the assumption turnout will be dismal, at best. The mention of Jazz on these boards occurs about as regularly as discussions about Naticve American architecture - so I guess there’s no harm in polling 5 artists as opposed to 4. Whether it’s just you and I voting remains to be seen. -
This Week #42’s Poll Requests: All 3 polls this week were requested by 42fish – a.k.a. Fish42. Let’s hope this isn’t vacation week for the Fish, because if that’s the case, turnout will be lower than I’m already expecting.
-
A Few Asides: If you have any suggestions on making any of the 6@6 threads more readable, please let me know. I discovered a long time ago the posters to these threads have better musical taste than any FM or satellite radio Program Director on this planet. Hopefully, after the ZZ Top poll, sometime next decade, I plan to compile all the votes from the SDMB & post them on the web and in a thread. Then I’ll burn a several volume CD set & send ‘em out to the top voters who helped keep these threads going.
3rd: Newcomers To The 6 At 6
Your name in lights. Thanks for Voting and Welcome all. The past week’s polls had 6 new respondents to the 6@6.

10th: This Week #42’s Headliner Poll
I can’t provide a link to it because the featured poll and results get posted first. Access it one of 3 ways: (1)Click the link on my signature. (2)Access it through the Café Society page. (3)Bog down the server and do a search on: The 6@6 Headliner Poll…42fish’s Ray Charles. The Headliner Poll also includes Links to the Past 78 Polls with the Top 6 tracks for each artist we’ve covered.
11th: Week #42’s Supplemental Poll
Find it the same way you find the Featured & Headliner Polls. The 6@6 Supplemental 6@6 Poll…42fish’s Marshall Crenshaw poll. As a regular feature, The Supplemental Poll also includes The “Straight Dope Message (Bill)Board" Top Vote Getters List (So Far). Check it out and see if “Watching the Detectives” will be knocked out of the coveted top position. (I have a feeling it’ll take a while. It will either be Dylan, Van Morrison or Steely Dan if I had to fathom a guess)
**Lastly: Week #42’s Featured Artist Poll **
All you have to do is list your six favorite tracks from this week’s featured artist. If you’d like to add your own liner notes or opinions, please go right ahead – I, for one, love reading them. If you specify a live version, it will be noted, but tallied with the studio version. Cover versions (performed by the artist we’re polling) are acceptable, as are duets and off-shoot projects. Please try to be as accurate as possible when naming your favorite tracks.
Without further ado…The late, great Ray Charles
