4th: The Mailbag: Questions, Comments, Requests & Asides

JBW: Thanks for both the recommendations and the comments in all 3 of last week’s polls. They were an interesting, informative and good read.

JBW: 42Fish, you’re gonna have to do a little lobbying for those polls, I can’t second – or vote in – any of them. If anyone can second 42fish’s request for The Drifters / Ben E King, The Coasters, Ruth Brown or Laverne Baker please do so. If he had requested Big Maybelle, I could have seconded it – but my knowledge the four he listed is limited to the The Time-Life Rock-N-Roll Era Compilation.

(3)Bog down the server and do a search on: Deep Purple Headliner, Def Leppard Supplemental or The Doobie Brothers Additional 6@6 poll.

Lastly: Top 6@6 Poll Posting Guidlines
All you have to do is list your six favorite tracks from from the artist in its’ corresponding thread. If you’d like to add your own liner notes or opinions, please go right ahead – I, for one, love reading them. If you specify a live version, it will be noted, but tallied with the studio version. Cover versions (performed by the artist we’re polling) are acceptable, as are duets and off-shoot projects. Please try to be as accurate as possible when naming your favorite tracks.

Without further ado: The Doors Featured 6@6 Poll…

Here Are My 6 Favorite Doors Tracks
6. Strange Days

Only six?

  1. The End
  2. When The Music’s Over
  3. LA Woman
  4. Peace Frog/Blue Sunday
  5. The Crystal Ship
  6. Not To Touch The Earth
  1. When the music’s over
  2. The End
  3. Riders on the Storm

  6. L. A. Woman
  1. Riders On The Storm
  2. Light My Fire
  3. Touch Me
  4. L.A. Woman
  5. Crystal Ship
  6. The End

#6- WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)
#5- Break On Through
#4-Back Door Man
#3- Roadhouse Blues
#2- L.A. Woman
#1- Crystal Ship

  1. Not to Touch the Earth (far and away better than all other Doors tracks. Even though I can’t figure out what the hell he means, it’s still far more understandable than the End. A true rock epic)
  2. Light my Fire (but only the full-length version will do)
  3. Back Door Man
  4. Alabama Song
  5. Hello, I Love You
  6. The End…(I guess. Although it’s the exceptional Doors song that doesn’t have some merit, The End is more just slightly ahead of all the rest of the %50 of Doors songs that I like. The rest arent bad but i can take em or leave em.)
  1. Touch Me
  2. Light My Fire
  3. People Are Strange
  4. L. A. Woman
  5. Hello, I Love You
  6. Riders On The Storm
  1. Riders On the Storm
  2. Touch Me
  3. When the Music’s Over
  4. People Are Strange
  5. Break On Through
  6. Peace Frog (shocked…SHOCKED that this doesn’t have more votes!)
  1. The Crystal Ship
  2. Love Me Two Times
  3. Light My Fire
  4. People Are Strange
  5. Soul Kitchen
  6. Moonlight Drive
  1. Riders on the Storm
  2. Love street
  3. People are strange
  4. The End
  5. Break on through
  6. Love me two times

JohnBckWLD, thank you for the comment above! I appreciate it.

  1. 20th Century Fox

  2. Love Her Madly (for me the key is the choked riff on the guitar which starts the song)

  3. Break On Through (the version from Absolutely Live - it’s the first time the broader listening public might have fully realized that the line “she get/she get/she get” was actually supposed to be “she get high/she get high/she get high”)

  4. The WASP

  5. Strange Days (the title track to the album which was their first to be recorded on eight-track recorders, which is why the mixed-down stereo image isn’t quite so harshly stilted…it’s the start of a more subtle mixing ideology)

  6. Waiting For The Sun

Crystal Ship
The Wasp (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)
Riders on the Storm
Light My Fire
Land Ho!
Hyacinth House

  1. Variety is the Spice of Life (from their fine, and nearly forgotten, post-Morrison album, Other Voices)
  2. People are Strange
  3. Roadhouse Blues
  4. Light My Fire (single version – the album has that lousy organ solo)
  5. Love Her Madly
  6. The Soft Parade
  1. People are Strange
  2. Love Her Madly
  3. L.A. Woman
  4. Soul Kitchen
  5. The End
  6. Backdoor Man
  1. The End
  2. Hello I Love You
  3. L. A. Woman
  4. Love Her Madly
  5. People Are Strange
  6. Riders on the Storm

(honorable mention for “Petition the Lord With Prayer”

  1. Wishful Sinful
  2. 20th Century Fox
  3. Love Me Two Times
  4. LA Woman
  5. Queen of the Highway
  6. Peace Frog

The Doors - like The Smiths - are unusual because they are both great and over-rated.

Love Me Two Times
People Are Strange
When the Music’s Over
Riders on the Storm
Love Her Madly
Roadhouse Blues
