Computer display problem

Part of the page I view is off the screen and I have to scroll back and forth to see it all. Also a word or two will be cut off on the side when I try to print text. It's not something I have been able to fix with the buttons on the monitor or with Settings/Control Panel/Display. I am pretty sure somebody gave me an easy fix for this once - to make the page fit the screen - but I can't remember what it is. Any ideas?
Thanks.

What application are you using to do this?

Microsoft Word?

It happens when I am viewing or printing from the internet. The picture goes slightly off the screen to one side. When I scroll over, it goes off the screen on the other side.

In that case there's nothing wrong with your monitor. Internet pages are often setu up as wider than the width of A4 paper. This is usually because of frames being used.

To increase the chance of a web page fitting in screen you could increase your resolution. If you are using windows - right click on the desktop and click 'properties', click the 'settings' tab, and choose a higher resolution. If your res is already 1024x768 or similar then that is high enough.

As for the printing problem you have to make it print only the frame which contains what you want to print. I am not quite sure how to do that, but what I often do if I want some text printed is cut it and paste it into a word-processor.

I can solve the printing issue - I always have the same problem - browsers like Internet Explorer default to .75 margins on all sides - fine, but it clips the page. Go to File -> Page Setup -> change the left, right, top and bottom margins to .25

Top and bottom is not that important, but the left and right are. Some printers can't support margins that slim, but nobody beats crazy revco and his razor slim margins! Sorry. Either way, it will retain these settings so you will always get the same margins when you print.

The page scroll issue? Sounds like the resolution - it should be at a minimum 800x600 - the horizontal scroll bar wouldn't appear if it was something else, I suppose. But you didn't say horizontal scroll, nor did you say if it was in your web browser, I just am guessing.

What browser, what version of the browser, and any other information you think is relevent would be nice.
