I’m seriously thinking of changing my DSN (Doper Screen Name) to Green Eyed Mulatto Boy or some variation of that because that describes me perfectly and that’s what I am.
Any objections to that or better ideas?
Should I just remain START?

We could call you GEM boy for short. Not too bad. For heavens sake if you do change your name please don’t make be all Caps again!
Green eyes are cool.
I didn’t know the word mullato was still in use. Would anyone be offended by using it in a name, no matter the intention? It wouldn’t bother me; I’m just asking.
Well, I wouldn’t if I were you. The name is very long. Why try to shove as many of your phyiscal characteristics in as possible? What are you planning to do in a few years when you grow into a man (assuming that the board is still here and you’re still a member)? I’d recommend incorporating a hobby or something into your name, if you really want to change it. It is possible, that someone (not me) might be offended by your name, as LouisB brought up. I know some people that do not like the word mulatto at all.
If he’s choosing to describe himself as a mulatto that’s his perogative.
Fifty years behind the times and potentially awkward racially double stardard descriptor, but definitely his perogative.
SDMB subscribers are a tolerant bunch. Won’t make waves.
Could go with Green Eyed High Yella Fella.
I vote to remain START. I hate it when people change their usernames because I can never freaking remember who has become what.
You will soon be a man. “Mulatto” is a perfectly valid, non-controversial word with a specific meaning (derived from the Spanish mulato for “young mule”)*
Think about the concern that some folks may have over the use of the word “boy” to refer to full-grown, even older men of color. I have to listen to redneck supervisors use it on a daily basis at my mid-South workplace.
(Congratulations on your very successful/productive thread on Britishisms.)
Have a great Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday. And offer a prayer (if that’s your wont) for one of his righthand men, James Forman, Civil Rights Pioneer, who died this past week.
*Random House Webster Unabridged Dictionary.
Afterthought: How about “Mixed Messenger”?
A lot of people will probably think it’s a new flavor from Starbucks.
But “Green-Eyed Mullato?” Mmmmm. You’ll get yourself some mash notes, sounds luvely.
Oops, “Mulatto.” You think a Jewess would know how to spell that . . .
Somewhere around here START posted his photo, and he is indeed very pretty. Amazing eyes. (But I think he’s under the age of legal consent, potential mashers.)
Well if you’re gonna get all PC and everything you could try, Green Eyed Male of Mixed Racial Descent or Green Eyed MoMRD. The only problem is someone somewhere will always find a problem if they want to find one.
So go with whatever you like. The Mermaid was not my original user name either.
It may describe the way you look perfectly, but that’s not really very useful or interesting in an online forum like this. I don’t think many of us have names that are physical descriptions. Despite my handle, I’m not actually “a gordian shape of dazzling hue/Vermilion-spotted, golden, green, and blue”.
If you want a name that’s more meaningful than START, there must be plenty you could choose that would reflect your personality or interests.
*Unless you really hate the name now, it’s best not to change.
What you are and what you look like are totally different things. I prefer usernames that indicate the former more than the later.
In real life, we are constantly judged based on the way we look. The internet gives us a refuge from this. I like START because it doesn’t suggest a particular gender, racial make-up, or nationality. People can’t assume that much just by your username. It gives you a layer of mysteriousness.
Green-eyed, mulatto, and boy are alright by themselves. However, I get a specific image of you when you put all of them together. It takes away all the imagination. I also really don’t like the word “mulatto”. It belongs in the same class as “mestizo”, “quadroon”, and “negress”. IOW, it’s an ole-timey word that can carry some baggage.
Not to mention a reformed Texan.
I liked GEM boy but this has got to be one of the best arguments for remaining START, atleast for now.
Because Jews are notoriously good spellers.
I vote for START because it cracks me up. I am always amused when I see someone named after a nuclear arms treaty. Who the hell is this person?! I don’t know, but don’t get him going on the strategic role of two-stage ICBMs—he’ll talk for days!
