We’ve come a long way since they first colorized black and white movies and even superimposed long dead celebreties into modern commercials.
I have to say I was rather impressed. Very technologically done, but best commercial ever… no.
Dignity. Always dignity.
Not bad, but not the best by a long shot.
To me, the most memorable was the 1984 Apple commercial that was first shown on the Super Bowl broadcast. It introduced the Mac to the world.
Just because the technology is improved from 5 years ago doesn’t mean it still doesn’t look like crap CGI.
Ugh. Absolutely awful.
And here it is. I think this might be the first time I’ve actually seen the commercial in its entirety.
Eeew.
Who took the sexiest man on screen ever and replaced him with Jar Jar Binks?
I find the music… intriguing.
But then I like electronic music anyways.
The most entertaining and interesting ad I’ve ever seen is Honda’s The Cog. Although it didn’t actually make me buy a Honda, so I don’t know if it’s the BEST.
I’ve heard about this ad for ages but never had a QT file of it til now. Thanks!
Plus, given the fact that it’s done (IIRC) without the interference of 1s & 0s, it just makes the p.o.s. in the OP seem even worse by comparison.
The link wouldn’t open for me, but here’s my question.
Will people still remember it in 20 years like the Macintosh ad?
Will they remember it in 30 years like Mean Joe Greene and the kid?
Will they remember it in 40 years like the LBJ “daisy” commercial?
Well no, it can’t be the best commercial ever, because it combines two of the most horrible trends in advertising:
Pop-lockin’. I still get night sweats at the thought of that Mitsubishi ad with the beret woman having an episode in the passenger seat of that guy’s car.
and
Reanimating dead celebrities. If you’re going to make a zombie Gene Kelly, you should at least make it more interesting. “I’m siiingin’ in the BRAAAINS…”
That song still reminds me of A Clockwork Orange. The zombie Gene makes it even more spooky.
Haj
Pure blasphemy.
Best ever?
Not even in the top 1000.
I found nothing at all appealing about that commercial. (I don’t mean to sound snarky, but I just don’t get it at all.)
I liked the EDS Cat Herders and the Reebok Terry Tate commercial on this site. The Budweiser Born a Donkey ad is cute, too.
Jebus that’s one speecy, spicy piece of crap!.
I have to agree with Reeder. That was pure, unadulterated blasphemy. To take a beloved idol like Gene Kelly and bastardize a classic piece of dancing genius is just…wrong!
That was dreadful. It ranks right up there with the terminal digestive ports who came up with Crazy Horse Whiskey and Pope-on-a-Rope-Soap.
Amazing what they can do with computer graphics. I like this one tho… Click on “Play TV Spot”
