Okay, so I’ve seen a few threads dedicated to individual chess matches, and I’ve seen a great many posts around various fora where people talk about their chess skills.
So, I figured, for fun and bragging rights, we should set up a single elimination tournament. I’m not great at chess myself, and I estimate that I’d be knocked out somewhere around the beginning, but I think it’d be great fun for everybody.
We could pair people off, have them play games on yahoo and email the game history to me so I can post it to this thread, or just post the results directly.
I’d love to play. But why a single elimination tournament? Why not have a round robin (if there are few enough players) or a Swiss tournament? That could easily be arranged, with or without USCF or FIDE ratings.
Hrm, well, we have seven people. This is a pretty piss-poor tournament. Anybody know anybody else they can harass, politely, to get them to join? Anybody have the lib signal set up and ready to go?
That seems like it would take too long plus I doubt the mods would look kindly on 10 chess games running at one time. Perhaps the two players can schedule a time so that if people want to watch they can.
Perhaps we can have the games played on Yahoo (or elsewhere) for the first rounds, and only have the final games played on the SDMB? It would be neat to watch a championship match on the board.
I think round-robin or somesuch is probably better than single elimination, but it doesn’t really matter.
