TubaDiva is back as an admin after less than 30 days - how do YOU feel?

I personally am disgusted with the administration of this board. TubaDiva should not have been allowed back as a member after her blatant disregard for board privacy. And she’s got her Administrator status back as well?

She banned a user based on her personal dislike of his past, which he was open about. She claimed that there were complaints that he was trying to groom an underage board member, but nobody besides Tuba seems to have an idea who this person is, and I think it was either made up or a false accusation from people who did not want a pedophile on their board, even if they behave themselves. When she posted about this in his LJ she pointed out the fact that her obligation to maintain confidentiality does not apply off this board, in her mind at least.

She says she regrets her actions. I’m sure next time she goes after someone she’ll be more anonymous.

Who are you, Blue, and what stake do you have in this?

Daniel

Does one have to be personally affected by something to be offended by it?

I second **Left Hand of Dorkness’ ** question. Not that I think a newbie shouldn’t have a right to question, just wondering.

Anyway, yeah **TubaDiva ** made a mistake. On a message board, I can’t see why people are getting so worked up. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to enjoy the company of message board people and even value their opinion at some times but at the end result **TubaDiva ** did one thing wrong amongst a 1001 good things and the end result was what? What’s-his-face (I honestly can’t remember his handle right now) was banned off a message board. A message board! Who cares? He’ll find other entertainments no doubt, and I don’t need **TubaDiva ** strung up to make myself feel better. She’s always been good to me.

Everyone makes mistakes, she doesn’t have a history of making them, there’s no reason to assume the worst. Humans do it too much anyway.

HEY! Blue Ruin!

Pay yer fuckin fees before you trash Tuba, you little shit!

I don’t mind at all especially considering that the guy was a criminal sex pervet / predator. I wouldn’t have suspended her at all. What she did is a civic duty AFAIC.

She was not suspended for banning him. She was suspended for posting the supposedly secret reason for his banning and a link to his entry on a sex offenders database on his LJ.

I’m delighted. TubaDiva’s action may have exposed the SDMB and the Chicago Reader to some civil liability, but may also have saved herself and the administration from criminal liability and moral suckitude by preventing a child molester from trolling the board for victims.

Bonus opinion: I think you’re an asshole. I’ve got a hell of a lot more basis for that opinion than you do for your “I think she made it up, I think , I think, I think…” litany. Asshole.

Geez, can’t we just let the issue die already? Yes, some people are still worked up, and I understand that. However, it has been hashed to death already in several threads (most of which are now hidden) and there is nothing new to be said barring some new revelation from the staff–I think we can agree that the chances of that happening are nil.

Yes, she made a mistake. Yes, she was suspended. Yes, she’s back to doing her moderator duties, which we knew was going to happen. There’s nothing new to see here. Now move along.

Third.

My, I’m impressed by your intimate knowledge of a subject that happened before you became a guest here, by the fact most new board readers would probably gravitate toward something less “administrative” in nature, by your lingering venom and your intuition about any future actions by Tuba, a complete stranger to yourself.

Or is all not as you’d suggest?

How do I feel?

WELCOME BACK TUBA!!!

Since hebephilia is such a hot topic, to see why what she did was wrong, lets replace his behavior with something illegal that most people are more accepting of.

Let’s say I posted on this board that I was a former drug user and I used to sell drugs to support my habit. I mention that I have been arrested for it, am under supervision because of this, and I have cleaned up my act.

Suddenly, I am banned with no reason given. I post about this on my LiveJournal. Then an administrator from this board finds my LJ (which I did not post about on the message board) and posts that an anonymous person reported that I was trying to sell them drugs, and then the administrator posts a link to my real name and address.

Wouldn’t you see this as a heinous abuse of power that could have serious repercussions on my life? Maybe there’s people who read my LJ who are looking for an excuse to ruin my life, or personal information they could use to do so. Perhaps I kept certain aspects of my past from some of my friends and only mentioned it on this board because I assumed it would remain anonymous.

What if the accusations were true? It lessens the injustice, but it is still wrong. And I seriously doubt the accusations were true if they even happened, because the former sex offender says he has not been contacted by any authorities about this supposed incident and is still posting. If there was some kind of proof that he was trying to get at one of SDMBs younger members, he would be locked up with a swiftness.

Blue, allow me to answer your question in post #3: No.

Now, please answer mine. Who are you, and what stake do you have in this? Please try not to be coy in your answer.

Daniel

What’s that I smell. A dirty sock?

I am Blue Ruin. I read and post on SDMB.

I know I smell an accusation of sock puppetry. In this circumstance, however, I’m sure you won’t even be warned.

How many open accusations of sock puppetry does it take to incur the Wrath of the Mods? How long does one have to be a member of the SDMB to know that it’s Not Done?

The irony! It burns!

I feel fine…

Thanks for asking.
