Artic Monkeys??? Damn they were good. How long have they been around?

Jim

At least Horatio didn’t TALK.

Actually they were pretty much mocking him. I thought that was the good part of the skit.
Oh well Update is letting him talk.

I think the “Big Bucking Chicken” is an actual Burger King ad, not an SNL spoof. I know I’ve seen it in the last few days.

Sorry, yes it is, but tell me you don’t here it as Big F*cking Chicken.

Arctic Monkeys are the next “big” thing in the UK. Their album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, just came out in North America a couple of weeks ago to positive reviews. I picked the album up last week and am really impressed with it.

Metacritic Review

Their album was just officially released a few weeks ago in the US, but they’ve been building hype for a few months now and they’re some kind of huge in the UK. Right now in the US they’re in that elusive stage between hipster backlash and mainstream success.

I really liked the second song even more than the first. I just wikied them.
Pretty cool. Rose to #1 in UK without a label.

Unicorn commercial:

Jim

Christ, if they show that fucking Applaichian Emergency Room sketch once more, I might need to go down to the NBC studios and personally kick the shit out of the writers (and Lorne Michaels). Incredibly unfunny, stupid, and a bit racist. I might be able to forgive those sins if it was actually funny.

Darrell Hammond is still on the show?

Monkeys were ok, maybe an acquired taste, but I didn’t fall in love with them right away.

I loved the Arctic Monkeys. I’ve heard their second song on local college radio, but didn’t know who they were. Two great performances tonight.

I liked the return of Jason and Kristen as the A-Holes, and the unicorn sketch was cute/funny, but I was disappointed we got so little Chris Parnell tonight.

or the morning Bump

Jim

I discovered Arctic Monkeys here, actually, about a month ago. There was a link to one of their songs (the midnight song from last night’s show).
I wish they’d stick to one guest commentator on WU per show. It really makes the whole bit drag. I think they blew over a minute on applause for people wheeling on or off stage.

I think Seth Meyers threw in an ad-lib during the “Appalachian Emergency Room” sketch when he wondered aloud why Chris Parnell’s character was late showing up.

I think it’s fair to say that they are the current big thing here

Who was it who did Don Knotts in that one sketch? I thought they had the voice down pat.

I really did mean to say from the UK. :smack:

Before this SNL aired, I had no idea Heath Ledger was a Shia.

Why is it that Darrell Hammond is barely featured in the skits anymore? And when he is, he’s only there for a minute. What’s going on?

That I couldn’t answer, and I didn’t see the show last night, but wikipedia has an interesting factoid about Hammond:

“When veteran announcer Don Pardo is unavailable, Hammond fills in to introduce the cast, with a spot-on Pardo impersonation.”

I agree with most of What Exit? 's takes altho I thought the Monologue - which made fun/paid tribute to Crash’s stereotyping- was kind of clever if not actually uproariously funny (or even that traditionaly funny at all)

I am not sure how that Sushi CEO thing even made it to air

WU is usually the highlight for me, and really why I still watch SNL, I found this one pretty weak. Sanz as Dubai guy is THE BIG FINISH eesh?

That was Darrell Hammond (to also answer those posters who wondered where he was on the show).
