What are you getting your SO for Christmas?

I just got my wife these pans. She said she wanted pans and we sat down together and bought them.

She got me a Wii.

It's a good Christmas.

I bought him Unreal Tournament 3 a few weeks ago. He's also getting the Meh shirt from Thinkgeek.com, a pair of fuzzy d20s from Thinkgeek.com, and an OSU hoodie.

Plus lots of lovin'.

My wife is getting a late Xmas present of me home in January, when the takeoffs are easier and we're predicting a decrease in the suicide bombers.

She got me something so fantastic I do have to share, however -- a small Xmas tree with handmade ornaments featuring pictures of our time together. There's pics of our friends, right after we got engaged, our pets, pics of fabulous vacations, etc. My wife rocks.

A card.

My sweetie and I don't really do gifts all that much. We'll take each other out to dinner. Probably build a fire and drink mulled wine on Christmas or thereabouts. Yummmm.

Wonderful.

My Wife is getting a down coat, a running hat and sheepskin slippers. We live in the cold.

We traveled for Thanksgiving this year. My Mom was even able to come with us.

Christmas will be a simple get together more local.

My 78yo Mom wants tools. So I made a run to Sears for that. She does not need any more trinkets.

It's early in the relationship, so we're not doing huge gifts. I got him Colbert's I am America (and you can too) and the DVD of the movie 300, which he loves but does not have.

I got my husband a new meat slicer.
He makes a lot of jerky, and this will be great for slicing the various meats he uses, as his old slicer is a bit outdated, and not as nice.
This is the one I got him:
http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=392944

He got me a few cast iron pans that I've been wanting, as I cook a lot, and I prefer to use cast iron as much as possible.
He got me these:

I've been thinking about this one, so I guess I'll submit it for your opinions. My GF is rather well-endowed and has a hard time finding quality bras in her size. I can't exactly go buy her bras without her trying them on, so I was considering getting her a gift card for a couple of nice bras from a reputable store. I know gift cards are often considered impersonal and thereby a poor choice for one in a relationship, but she has complained in the past about how difficult it is for her to find fitting bras that aren't ugly. I think this is more personal than just giving her a Best Buy gift card and telling her to go nuts. Plus, maybe we could make a thing of it and she could try some on and I could give her my own input*.

What do you guys think?

*after which she may let me take her home and give her some more "input", if you know what I mean

Well, about a month before his dog passed away, he took her picture and put it on a TV test pattern. (He restores old TVs for a living.) So I asked him to email me the test pattern and I had it put on a sweatshirt and t-shirt for him. There's an antique television convention in May and I'm sure he'll be the talk of it.

Nothing. My husband and I do not exchange Christmas gifts with each other anymore. We buy the family and friends stuff, yes, and we receive stuff from them, but for each other, we've decided from here on out - we have enough. We have each other, and our health, and neither of us could possibly ask for more. I mean, we wouldn't turn down a couple million dollars, right? But the chances of that happening are pretty slim.

On Christmas day, when all the visiting and unwrapping and feasting is done, we will sit together, cuddling up, looking at all the stars on the bluff... enjoying the bliss that nothing can bring. Peace, quiet, and happiness.

'Cause next year there just might be the pitter-patter of tiny feet... and loud yowling and teething and slobbering and garish plastic toys and diaper changes and... and...

This might be the last year we get to enjoy nothing for a long, long time!

He's getting a Heinlein book and a DVD of a danish TV-series with a huge, agressive, fascistic purple hippopotamus as a main charachter. Yes, we're a bit strange.

I went self-employed at the start of the year which gave me a major increase in salary. Prior to realising this she was quite stressed about it so we're having a bit of a blow-out.

New iPod (lovely red nano with hurlingly cute inscription)
Some boots - very, very hot. Combination of knee high, lovely leather and the whole style. Oh yes!
A DAB radio to listen to at work
A vast selection of cosmetic/beauty products from her favourite store. How can face cream cost over £50?
Some books - she's not a great reader whereas I feel naked without a book in my pocket. Trying to encourage her.
One of everything at her favourite beauty spa.

I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm getting a most desirable EEPROM programmer from her Geek heaven.

But my favourite christmas-time gift is new years eve which is my Dads birthday. For the past 5 or 6 years I've taken my brother & sisters (and SOs and one niece), a couple of friends I've had from childhood and my Dad to our finest chinese restaurant where we eat, drink, drink, drink and be merry. It's better than any present and is normally my favourite day of the year.

I've got the best surprise ever lined up for next year. We're going away to a little cabin in the woods where we'll sit in front of a log fire, watch the snow fall and scare ourselves to death telling spooky stories of bigfoot, aliens in the forest and axe murderers

tim

We agreed to only buy small gifts for each other this year - we were going on a coach tour of Europe on Boxing day with our kids and her son+partner over from Oz... but I broke (ignored) the rules and got her a Wireless media player and speakers, to allow her to put music on without turning the TV on.

But now I can't go on the trip - our son is not well enough to travel. So she is letting me buy a Firewire Audio interface (Alesis Multimix 12) as a consolation

I paid for the Bluetooth headset he picked out and ordered himself. For Christmas Day, he'll get a drill (he said he wanted one, but I picked it out), a belt (his nice belt is cracked), and a tin of pistachio nuts without shells. I'm also planning to get him one of those seen-on-TV doohickies that dice onions for you. When we cook, he does most of the prep work because he likes to chop things, but onions bother his eyes a lot. It's kind of lame, but I want him to have at least one thing he's not expecting.

We saw Neil Young's concert at the Palace Theater last night. That kicked some serious ass. I also got us tickets to BAM's spring season (including Patrick Stewart in Macbeth on Valentine's Day), but I'm trying to think of that as just taking care of our theater needs in advance instead of as a holiday gift.

A new fuzzy (that is a quilted, lined, flannel, plaid shirt for those who are unaware.)
A new hoodie to go under it.
Socks.
A set of Ryobi drill bits in a roll up case that he saw at Home Depot.
A job box maybe - that's a really big plastic locking box with wheels he can keep all his tools in and just move all of them at once instead of making trip after trip to the van. We'll see - it might end up being too heavy - it will be up to him.
A Green Bay Packers jersey.
We also got him a DVD player/recorder/VCR player/recorder - but we already returned it. He said it was too tough to figure out. He'll wait on that.

My wife inherited a ruby ring from her late uncle's estate; unfortunately, the ring was much to large and masculine for her to wear. A local jeweler cut the ring down and converted it into a beautiful pendant. I'm giving her the pendant and a bunch of music (Harry Connick, Mark Cohen, Michael Buble) that she likes.

I think this is a great idea as long as you make a day of it -- take her out shopping and treat her to a fabulous lunch or dinner.

-----

All I could think of was to renew Mr. S's Dirty Linen subscription, which he had allowed to lapse. So I just plain asked him, expecting the usual, "Oh, a book or CD or something," but he confessed to wanting a silly little train set, something to goof around with. So I ordered him this one. I looked at several different ones, but this one had the most consistently good reviews. If I have time, I'd like to find an engineer's hat, train whistle, and red bandana to go with it. (He already has the overalls.)

I hope he'll like it; I don't think he'd ever spend that much on one himself.

A used PS2 to replace the one that started spitting strings of melted plastic onto the discs. I would've bought new but I wasn't sure how tight our budget would be (and I still have no way to access the bank account anyways--the guy I'm buying it from is letting me pay whenever I can)

A breadmaker, to replace the one that broke a year or so ago (I've had to stop her from buying a replacement, so I think she knows about this gift).

A gift book about Broadway musicals.

Probably a Chico's gift certificate, unless I find something there that I'm sure she will like...

And two tickets to Cyrano de Bergerac on Broadway for the weekend after new years, plus two nights at a hotel in the city (boy, I'm hoping she'll take me along!)

We bought a house this past year, so money is a bit tight at the moment... consequently, and as neither of us really need anything, we decided to take the attitude that we are living in our mutual X-mas present this year. We still haven't decided whether we are even getting a tree this year (though we probably ought to make up our minds soon!).

However: wifey has been wanting a GPS navigation unit for her car, as she spends a LOT of time driving to different places as part of her job; and I found a GREAT deal on a Magellan Roadmate GPS unit... so I cheated and got it for her. Also, I had already gotten her a couple of books before we made the decision to skip out this year... so she'll have a couple of presents. She probably will get me a couple of small things too, not that I need anything.

Wifey is getting:

An electric can opener.
A steam cleaner for drapes and carpets
A digital camcorder
A very nice watch
A new computer for both of us to share
One hot sex-filled evening in the hotel of her choice, away from the kids

And yes, she requested each and every one of these items within the last 12 months....I just happen to listen and jot these things down in my pocket calendar....

And I really don't care what hotel it is......just as long as the sheets are clean and the showers are hot.

My husband and I haven't exchanged gifts in longer than I can remember - at least 10 years. The thing is, when we want stuff, we get it. And with our daughter scheduled to graduate, get married, and move in May, all excess funds are budgeted for that.

Even if we were doing gifts, I have no idea what I'd get him. So it's a good thing we're not bothering.
