No New HP Movie Until Next Summer

Basically boils down to money. I’m NOT happy about this.

Talk amongst yourselves. :frowning:

What, are they shooting around Emma Watson’s pregnancy, or something?

Don’t know nothin’ about that, but the movie is finished, and has been for a little while now. It’s just going to sit on the shelf for the next 11 months, so they can turn a bigger profit.

I’d love to see this movie as soon as possible, but I don’t begrudge them their profit. If releasing it later will make more money, that’s OK with me. It’s not as if they are shelving it indefinitely, as has occasionally been done with movies.

What a crock. As if any HP movie isn’t going to roll over the competition and get the biggest gross whatever its opening weekend. They just released the trailer, for Pete’s sake, which made sense with the November release.

I’m sifting through the comments on Mugglenet, and evidently some people have already purchased vacation packages for the British premiere of the film (for the November date, of course) so now they are out money spent on that. I don’t know if they can get any kind of reimbursement on those - though I really hope so - but either way it’s crappy for the hardcore fans who have planned their free time around the release.

This doesn’t really make any sense. They don’t need extra time to finish the film, even though that’s part of their excuse (they mention the writer’s strike, which surely has no relevance now the movie is complete and on post-production schedule), and it’s going to make the same amount of money no matter what time it gets released, it has a built-in loyal fanbase in the approximate number of a bajillion people.

I don’t get it.

Here is the list of November releases from IMDB.

We’ve got the new Bond movie, Madagascar II, and Soul Man (staring the late Bernie Mac and the late Isaac Hayes). Maybe they think Soul Man will dominate because of the Dead Actor Factor, but I doubt it.

Not Happy At All.

At least it’ll mean a much shorter wait between films 6 and 7. Also (and I can’t imagine this was any kind of factor in the decision) it fixes a big problem that IMAX had, with Madagascar 2 coming out just 2 weeks prior to the original opening date for HP6.

“Tent pole release.” Tee-hee!

OK, just send me back to junior high.

In fact, it makes so little sense that I’m suspecting some sort of contractual or legal issue within the studio or something. The work is already done–they should be able to release it at any time. The specter of them having the actors back to loop in new material (newly written by this new talent that has surfaced since the writer’s strike–what kind of lame excuse/explanation is that?) does raise its fearsome head.

I’m bummin’. Assuming the quality would be just as high (of which I have no doubt), I’d rather see it sooner than later. Duh.

I don’t buy the “being worried about other movies being released” crap. It’s harry potter. HARRY FREAKING POTTER! It will trump any other movie being released at that time, just because it’s harry potter. And I don’t want to wait another YEAR to see it.

Hey, y’all look at the bright side: Dumbledore gets 8 more months to live!

Wikipedia doesn’t mention her being pregnant. Am I being whooshed?

well, fuck.

 How did I miss this?

Warner Bros. has The Dark Knight in the bucket for this year, and it made a trillionty-billion dollars. But they don’t have a whole lot lined up for next year–Terminator: Salvation and Watchmen will probably clean up, but I’m betting they won’t be huge.

They’re putting it out in July so they can make the bottom line for 2009. I’m depressed, but resigned.

Well, yes. It was a joke about how the actors are aging faster than their onscreen counterparts. I guess I could’ve said “Daniel Radcliffe’s prostate surgery” or “Rupert Grint’s diverticulitis exams.”

Emma Watson is not pregnant, it was clearly Bryan Ekers making a joke that seems to have backfired.
