Olive had her puppies!

And I missed it! Gah! But everyone is just fine, so I guess I’ll get over it.

Previous thread.

Here’s the link to the web album. Not a ton of photos yet. I know we have 2 girls (Cupid and Vixen–Cupid because she has two hearts on her–see the middle pup in the third photo. Vixen is the black and white one.)

The one with the gray-ish markings is a boy. I don’t know about the last one yet. Olive is being pretty protective of her babes.

I feel like one of them should be named Rudolph, although I’m not in love with the name. So the gray guy will probably be Rudolph (he does have a pink nose). The last one will probably be Blitzen, which I think can work for either sex.

Anyway, congratulations Olive! Yay, puppies!

Rusty is whispering in my ear. Name the dog Poops!

Pups! And they’re cute from the get-go. Glad everyone is safe and healthy.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Da puppies is cutest!

Do you have a webcam? We could totally do an SDMB puppy webcam. It would rock.

Alas, no. Sorry. But I’ll update the picasa album until you’re bored to death of the thing.

aww! Vixen is mine! she’s mine, I claim her, send her to me because she’s mine.

Oh, Renee. Do you know what you have saved that dog from? You got her just in the nick of time, too. If not for you, Olive and her babies would be out in some cold field right now. The puppies probably all would have frozen to death by now.

I’m too far away to take a puppy, but, if you need it, I’ll happily donate some money towards her care.

When I opened the thread I was thinking, “Please have pictures…please have pictures…”! Yay.
So cute. You made my night.

Congrats to all, and wishes that they are all healthy.

AWWWWWWWWW!!! They are adorable!! Olive looks like she’s a very good mama, too. It will be fun watching these little one grow up.

I looked at the pictures, and melted into a little puddle.

The puppies are *indisputably *adorable, but Olive! She looks so shy and protective. She has such a pretty face. What a sweetheart doggie. Picture number two says to me: I’m sorry, I think I made these. Can I keep them? Just for a little while?

Thank you so much for taking Olive in. You’re good.

Wow. When you asked for naming suggestions I had no idea she was so very pregnant. How lucky she is to have had a safe, warm, comfy place to have her babies in!

Good girl, Olive. Gooooood girl.

Awww - this made my day!

What darling puppies! Although I think the black and white one should be named Rorschach. I mean, just look at his/her back patterns in the last two photos – looks like an inkblot to me!

::sighs in contentment:: Thanks for posting those. Olive really looks like a sweet doggie.

All those pictures seem to say: “I don’t know what that thing is that you’ve got in front of your face, but you’d better not get too much closer to my babies with it.”

Olive looks like she will be a good mother. That protective instinct is there without being over aggressive towards you. Read up on puppy care, and remember to start socializing those pups early and often. I LOVE puppies!

Very nice story. We took in a dog 2 weekends ago and grew attached very quickly. But alas, we found her home 3 days later. Glad for the dog and her family, but sad for us. Is Olive allowing you to handle the pups?

They’re all adorable. I’m glad Olive’s story has a happy ending!

Awwww…turns into puddle of goo

Awwwww. Puppies.

Olive looks like a great pooch mama. She’s a beauty, too. Love her coat and face; she has such gorgeous expressive eyes.

And did I mention…puppies? ::sighs:: I can almost smell the popcorn puppy paw smell and hear the little whimpers.

Cats are okay but dogs melt my heart.

She’s the runt, too, which makes her extra-cute. Alas, shipping from Okinawa can be pricey, even for small live animals.

That is so sweet of you. They might not have actually frozen to death here (tropical climate–it’s about 65 now) but they probably would have been gassed to death once they were discovered and taken to the awful, awful pound. Or just plain starved. (The reason I missed the birth in the first place was because I had to drive the hour and a half down to said pound to look for a cat we had adopted out last week, which the new owners–who deserve a pit thread of their own–lost the first night. Cats get three days in an extremely small cage before they’re killed. Americans are required to have their pets microchiped, and the cat was, but they don’t check for chips before they kill them. Makes sense, no?)

There is a huge stray animal population here. Pet sterilization is not popular, and people leave their dogs chained up in their yards, permanently. In the past 3 years, we’ve fostered a couple dozen animals. The organization that helps with that is the Okinawa American Animal Rescue Society (OAARS). If you’d like to donate, please do it through them. They (we, I guess) are completely volunteer run and do good work. And, of course, perpetually underfunded.

To me it looks like this. (the face/vase image) Gotta say, though, Vixen rolls off the tongue better than Rorschach.

Olive is not letting us handle the pups yet, although she does go outside to go to the bathroom, so we can change bedding and handle them a little bit then. That’s the thing about only having her 2 days prior to the birth, not enough time to build trust. I also think this is her first litter, and she’s being super-protective. I’m sure she’ll calm down soon.
Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. I’ll keep updating the photos and taking care of our little zoo.
