Of course round my digs, that’s pretty much every day. They are a pretty entitled group. I guess I gotta take them out in the Jeep after all. I was gonna try and skip it today. No chance now! I’m sure The Crew heard the news.
I learned about this on Facebook, from a friend who has two dachshunds. I have just one, Mauser. I’ve had him for almost six years now. So I bought him treats that he likes.
Hell, every day is National Dachshund Day at my house.
I am awaiting a new mini-Dachshund puppy. He was born in mid-May and I should be able to bring him home next month. I can hardly wait – he’s endearing to the bone! Already has me wrapped around his paw.
LOL, yes, I’ll post pics when I get my mitts on him. I’ve got a couple now, but I want his first pics on the forum to be ones I take!
He’s a total classic black and tan smooth. His momma is a stunning red smooth (like my last little fella, Lewis) and his poppa is a beautiful black and tan wirehair. He’s currently being manhandled socialized by the breeder’s grandchildren, which I think is great.
I’ve really missed having a Dachshund in the house!
I’m going to try to figure out how to get a picture of Mauser here. I’m not sure what kind of equipment I need for that. Mauser is a smooth coat brown dog with a whitening face. He is older now, I got him six years ago when he was five.
I’d love to see a pic of him. I remember when you got him.
It’s so hard to watch them age… worse when they go. We just have to love them every minute while they’re with us.
You’ll have to set up an account with a hosting site, then upload the pic to there. Then copy and paste the link to the hosting site location into a separate line in your post, making sure there is a blank line before and after the link. That’s it!
Never heard of it before, but that’s quite clever calling the longest day “Dachsund Day”. One of my neighbors here in Beijing has a lovely, smiling, old Dachsund he named, for some odd reason with an English name: Noodle. And two of my other neighbors have Dorgis. They’re all quite cute when they walk–or I should say bounce.
Noodle is a good name for a doxxie! Hopefully not too long of a Noodle, though. Bad for their backs.
My late little Lewis had this sort of rolling strut with a charming wiggle in the back end when he strode out ahead of me on walks. Made me laugh every time to watch him.
Amazing how an 11-pound critter can take up so much room in your life and your heart.
It’s why I waited so long after Lewis died. That was 2 1/2 years ago, and I only just now feel like I’ve processed my grief enough to fall in love with another one.
I’ve had dogs all my life, a few German shepherds, a Border collie… I loved each and every one. But none charmed me like Lewis did. I hope you get another one, too!
I think most everyone has seen these, and I haven’t updated in a while, but here is the Dachshund page I made for Doxie’s recovery. Lots of other dog stuff, including the ‘new’ puppy. I’ll post for anybody who hasn’t had it forced on them yet.
Sadly, he’s gone now. But he is still fun to watch Be Awesome! Best dog. Lost Trixie, too. I’m too broken-hearted to talk about that still.
When I lost Nathan I thought it would be a long time before I got another dog. I even plunked down the money to put him in the pet section of a big cemetery here in town where I have a lot of relatives, a sister, two aunts, mother, father, grandmother and grandfather, and an uncle, plus more extended family. I couldn’t bury him in the back yard, then move, and never be able to visit.
Nathan died in April and I saw a picture of Mauser on the website of a shelter in another county north of me, about seventy five miles away. He was on his back, with his feet in the air, begging to have his belly rubbed. That was all I needed.
I put Doxie under his favorite tree out here. We got acres. Country livin’, and diein’. Wish someone would bury me next to Doxie. It’s a nice spot. Company couldn’t be better.
