Help me name my new, pregnant dog!

We found this little girltonight, holding a chicken bone. Brought her home, and here she is. Winner of this contest gets a free puppy!*

We already have a Mirabel (Mira), Sylvie, Inu, and Wally. So preferably no names that end in the ie sound, or that sound too much like the above. She seems to be a Japanese dog. Pretty young. About 15 lbs normal weight.

Bonus points for theme-y puppy names. (Yay, Christmas puppies! Perhaps we’ll go with reindeer names for the babies.)

*Shipping and handling not included, other restrictions may apply.

Hmm. I think she looks like she should have a “plants of the holiday season” sort of name. Holly, Ivy, Mistletoe (would probably morph into “Missy”), Cranberry…?

I think she should be Cinnamon.

As in, Bun.

In the oven. Jeesh! Do I have to spell everything out for you people?

 Actually, I was thinking of Cinnamon, but didn’t make the bun in the oven connection, so apparently you did have to spell it out for me. But the bun in the oven thing might be enough to sell it to the hubby, who wasn’t sold on Cinnamon.

I’ve been going though all the holiday-ish names and can’t come up with many I really like. Tinsel? Winter? I kind of like Holly, but I knew a girl named Holly and that kind of screws it up for me.

We could screw the gender roles and call her Nick (as in St. Nicholas).

Well, she *looks *like a Cinnamon, too! And it’s Christmasey. I think it’s a great name.

Just spell it Nicole-lass.

Or you could name her Olive. That way when she has Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen, she’ll be “Olive the other reindeer”.

Perfect! Puppy names too!

It’s not a holiday name, but she looks just like a dog I had growing up whose name was Peanuts.

The puppies could be Almond, Cashew, Brazil, Hickory, Hazel, and Pistachio.

She’s lovely! What a face! Congratulations on the impending blessed event.

Margaret of Antioch is a patron saint of pregnant women. You didn’t want an “ie” ending, but Maggie is a good name; today is the 105th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first attempt at Kitty Hawk. Her fringey tail makes a nice propeller! Call her “Flyer!” It’s Frances Bavier’s 106th birthday; call her “Bee!”

No tag or anything? She looks pretty healthy to be an inveterate stray. Shouldn’t you be posting “dog found” signs around the neighborhood first before you start deciding on a name for her?

How about name her after one of the Santa’s reindeer? You’ve got

Dasher
Dancer
Prancer
Vixen
Comet
Cupid
Donner
Blitzen

I think she looks most like a Vixen.

No tags. I don’t feel a microchip, but we’ll check. We’ll be posting signs, definitely, but I’d be surprised if anyone comes up. Where I found her–sugar cane fields–is common dog-dumping territory (we’ve already rescued two cats and a dog from the same place). The people around here aren’t exactly known for their responsible pet ownership. I’d bet someone realized their puppy was pregnant and didn’t want to deal with it. But I hope I’m wrong, of course. In the mean time, we have to call her something. I’m leaning towards Cinnamon right now, although Olive is great. I’m just not sure she looks like an Olive.

Preggers dog. name her Jolie.

That’s not very nice. And Renee did specify no “ie” ending names.

At the risk of sounding too cheesy, how’s Angel for a Christmas-themed name? Or Bethlehem, with Beth for short?

Mama Dog.

In recognition of both the season and her “fallen” condition, may I suggest “Ho, Ho, Ho”? (“Ho” for short, of course.)

She does look sweet.

How about Ginger, as in ginger bread houses and cookies and…hmm, now I want dessert!

Well, I read the thread before looking at the pics, and this comment inspired the suggestions “Sugar”, “Candy Cane” and “Peppermint”. Maybe “Sugarplum”. The pups could be additional types of candy.

I didn’t get any additional ideas from the pics. She’s a cutie, though.

Heh. If it weren’t for the “no names ending in an -ie sound” I would’ve suggested “Mary”. Or how about “Virginia”?

Is it like a tribble – born pregnant?

Aw, she’s a beauty.

Olive would be such a cute name.
