Brought about by this thread in Particular the comment in the second sentence of the second paragraph of this post.
For those of you playing along at home, this jackass has somehow managed to burn though his brakes in less than what he considers to be the proper time. I step in and explain a few things and mention that a friend of mine is a service manager of a Honda dealership and I would be happy to ask him his take on the situation. Instead of thanking me, or being polite I get this
I note he has now edited his response to read
Listen up asshole, you have insulted a fine gentleman who happens to be a very close friend of mine. I have known him for over 15 years, and frankly I can say he is trustworthy, honest, and one hell of a lot smarter than you. You don’t get to be a service manager of a large dealership by being an idiot. However you can post to a message board even though you are a drooling idiot, which it is obvious you are.
It is my sincere wish that both the dealership and the Honda factory tell you to fuck off. People like you are the reason I have such a shitty job. I have to listen to the diarrhea that comes out of mouths like yours. Doesn’t matter if makes any sense whatsoever, I have to listen to abuse from people like you, who know less about cars than my dog. But that is at work, and I am not a service manager for Honda. So this is a free fire zone. Listen you puss sucking asshole, you are a fucking idiot that was probably sitting in church scratching your balls when your parents got married. You are dumber than the average bacteria.
So why don’t you take that Fondue Acorn and go crawl back under the rock you climbed out from under.
I see where you’re coming from, Rick, although i read his comment a little differently.
I didn’t get the impression that he was insulting your friend; i thought he was pre-emptively insulting the service manager of the place where he takes his Accord.
Now that i look at it again, it seems to me that it could be either, and it would be nice if Bijou Drains would step in and clarify.
Even if he was talking about his own service manager, or some hypothetical service manager, the whole “GED level of education” insult was silly and uncalled for. And if he was talking about your friend, it was even worse, considering your offer to ask him for his opinion.
Well, let’s be fair. Let’s face it, while you personally know lots of good, honest wrench monkeys, there ARE unfortunately large numbers of incompetent and/or dishonest dealerships and automotive service centers and if he’s anything like the majority of the driving public, he’s encountered some real winners. Yeah, he insulted your friend but being a n00b, he’s not likely aware of your reputation and he certainly doesn’t know your friend. I say cut him a little slack, at least for now.
I know there are good service writers/service managers out there and it sounds like your buddy is one of them, but…
In many many shops, particularly dealerships and chain shops but also in large independents, the guy at the front desk usually IS a guy who knows practically nothing about the actual workings of a car, but who knows a great deal about increasing the shop’s bottom line by steering customers towards high-profit services and repairs they don’t need. They also serve to create a layer of impersonality between the customer and the mechanic which often makes it much more difficult both for the mechanic to understand exactly what the customer’s complaint with the vehicle is and for the customer to understand what exactly is wrong with their car. Though I don’t agree with the OP’s attitude issue, as someone who has seen the mechanic/front desk/customer relationship from both sides, I see where it comes from
Of course, part of the reason why the front desk person is necessary at all is because it’s not the mechanic’s job to argue with customers like the OP, who does not seem to be interested in any explanation for what he has experienced other than that it’s a grave and fatal flaw in the car that Honda has to fix free of charge. My take on it is that the new brake system is causing the rear brakes to wear faster than people are used to and that’s generating a lot of complaints. But we don’t hear anyone complaining about the longer life of the front brakes and I suspect that it will all even out in the end. It sounds like some people have bullied their local dealerships into a free set of brakes and since some people got away with it the OP feels entitled.
I didn’t read too much snark in it Rick, to be honest. You were trying to be helpful, and while I doubt that the attitude of Bijou Drains will get him very far, I couldn’t see any smear in the response.
That aside, $200 is not much to spend on a modern car for anything.
As I read the thread that prompted this pitting, Rick, as he often does, went out of his way to be helpful, and even offered to check with his buddy and provide more info. Bijou Drains rudely shit all over Rick’s offer of help, and got himself a well deserved pitting.
I was always taught that if you are asking for some information, or a favor from someone, you probably should not insult them, their friends, or try to stick your finger in their eye.
Obviously our n00b never learned that.
That is true, and you were very helpful. I think our new member may have been a bit single minded and maybe did not appreciate the assistance you were offering.
Fair enough, Although I did have one Nissan dealership that was just awesome. They went out of their way to look after me, they called me and arranged everything when there was a minor recall. That was just one of the many things they did for me. I also had a major electrical problem that they fought for and got fixed under warranty. So while I will agree a lot of dealerships are overpriced and pis me off to just walk in, sometimes you can find a real gem.
I have always enjoyed reading your posts, my question to you is after 6 months and 350+ posts, is he/she still a n00b?
You really are a fucking idiot. Here’s hoping your car breaks down weekly and those morons with their GED level edumacation school you in some appreciation for the blue collar crowd.
I would much rather hang out with mechanics then “Harvard Phd level people” if you are their poster child. Rude elitist mofo.
They may not have a PhD, but they know how to fix brakes, and you don’t. They know about 1,000 different ways to fix problems with your car that you don’t.
You really do seem to be a prick. Could you, perhaps, go away and never come back? We have our capacity of idiots we are attempting to help here and you are just slowing down our work.
