Those black "spoiler" boxes [Now with NEW spoiler boxes]

What are they called? (I’ll feel dumb, if the answer is black spoiler boxes!

And how do you create them? In very simple terms, please!

Thanks!
This is one of the few sites I’ve ever seen any.

They’re typed [spoiler ] Type text here [/spoiler ] without the spaces, of course

Oops, missed the edit window…

ETA: I’m guessing there is a FAQ around here somewhere with the vB coding. If you ever want to know how something is done, though, just find a post with the featuer you’re curious about and click the “Reply With Quote” button. All of the coding will then be visible.

Scroll all the way down the page and on the lower left side of the screen there is a small box labeled “Posting Rules.”

Under “BB code” lists all the different fun things we can do.

Well, wouldn’t want you to feel dumb, really, but they are usually called spoiler boxes. We try to keep things simple.

I call them Don Jardines. Don Jardine was a pro wrestler who worked under a mask as The Spoiler, and other ring names.

[spoiler2]Whoa! I like this type so much better! No highlighting needed![/spoiler2]

[spoiler2]Badass, thanks![/spoiler2]

[spoiler2] As God is my witness, I will never use the other spoiler box again! [/spoiler2]

Does spoiler2 in the first post show up on the mouseover?

Just did a test thread in ATMB. It also shows up in the mouseover. Still gonna use it.

[spoiler2]I love this![/spoiler2]

This may be a tad off-topic but I saw just this weekend that CTRL-A lets you see all the spoilers on a page with a two-key press. Beats the mouseover method. What else will I learn today?

Aha! I see in testing this post that CTRL-A does NOT show the spoiler2 goodies. Another lesson!

And for those browsing on an iphone, there is no CTRL-A.

The first step is incredibly important:

  1. Determine that the information you’re putting into the spoiler box is ***actually ***a spoiler. Speculation is not a spoiler. Something your roommate came up with is not a spoiler. In many threads, stuff you see on a TV show’s “previews for next week’s episode” is not a spoiler. Discussion of a movie’s plot within that movie’s thread (unless the thread title says “no spoilers”) does not need a spoiler box.

Thanks!

Do you have any way to see spoiler boxes on the iphone? I don’t know of any.

[spoiler]A double bagger!

[spoiler3]Any more?[/spoiler3]

Aw maaaan.

I must check on my iTouch to see if spoiler2 works without having to quote the thing.

Actually, yes, previews for the next episode are considered spoilers. The spoiler warning in the title only covers that episode, not future episodes. This is my understanding of the recent spoiler discussion in ATMB.
