A great guy and poster, Q.E.D. {RIP}

Michael's sister emailed me to let me know that Mike had died.

http://www.nj.com/independentpress/i..._of_new_p.html

It's a sad, sad day.

He was a great source of knowledge and an all around decent guy with an awesome sense of humor.

Shit.

This is very sad. Always wondered when he would be back again. I missed him in the Doperverse.

He was suspended for a month, but didn't resume posting after his suspension was over.

Indeed. ISTR I owe him a new keyboard from a few years ago. Apparently I said something funny once.

Christ, this is a shock! I didn't have much interaction with the guy, but his name was always a big presence around here. I didn't know that he had worked for Mythbusters. How on earth did this happen? Does anyone know?

Back when I was lurking, I always thought Q.E.D.'s posts were always a pleasure to read. When I joined, I looked forward to actually interacting with him as a fellow poster. Such a shame that I won't be able to have that chance.

R.I.P., Q.E.D. I didn't really know you, but that didn't stop me from respecting you.

I wouldn't say that I knew him, but, when I saw this thread as the last commented on, on the main page, I had to stop my usual navigation to threads and reload. I thought to myself, he couldn't have, did he?

And well, in that moment I guess I can say that I knew him enough.

I haven't been around here much myself lately, but, I think his impact here will be missed, even if it was muted recently.

perhaps I find the words hard, simply because they are. He will be missed here.

Wow... I tend to be pretty bad at remember most Dopers as I usually don't pay much attention to who the poster is while I'm reading a thread, but Q.E.D. is probably the first poster I think about when I think SDMB. He probably holds the record for most first responses to a new GQ thread, he could answer many different types of questions very quickly. And while it may have been a source of ridicule at times, he really was very good at Google-Fu
RIP QED

Jesus, I thought this was a joke thread...

Oh my word. That completely sucks. I thoroughly enjoyed his posts, even when he was getting a bit "big for his britches". This is sad news. I hope we can find out what happened.

44 years old.

It took me until the 18th post to for my mind to put together who it was. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

You were the first poster whose name I noticed here. Heck, your posts were one of the reasons I joined.

I've missed you since you decided not to come back, but now I'll miss you a lot more.

I couldn't find anything else on the 'net, but I hope fisha can tell us a little more.

I meant to say in my earlier post that despite his sometime abrasiveness, Q.E.D. was one of the most enthusiastic Dopers we ever had.

I saw the thread title and I didn't believe it initially, because I had QED online on my IM, and I knew him to be relatively young.

It's a great loss for our community. He was a enthusiastic contributor to these boards, with an abundance of knowledge. I remember when I was mod we changed the GQ forum description based on his recommendation to include "factual question" to the forum description. That will continue to remind me of him.

He's still online on my IM. I left a message for his family with a link to this thread. Not sure if they'll check in.

His IM status reads "Tony says 'Mew!'" (Tony is his cat, whose pic is his avatar).
