This is why you're fat - what would you eat?

I was linked to this is why you're fat in the great debate thread about why people are so fat. Looking through, I found some things that weren't terrible, or looked good enough to eat anyway.

eggs five ways - I'd prefer to leave off the hollandaise sauce, but isn't that bad with it

goober burger - I'd like less peanut butter and mayo, but for taste reasons, not health reasons

Duck Fat Doughnuts - look delicious, and small

Year of The Triple Bypass - looks too big, but otherwise I don't see anything wrong with it

Bacon And Grilled Cheese Egg In The Hole - don't even know why this is on the site

Banana Peanut Butter Cup And Marshmallow Grilled Sandwich- unhealthy as hell, but sounds delicious

Hamburger Pie - it's a hamburger with a pie crust instead of a bun. Not sure how that's worse than a hamburger.

Is there anything on the site that you'd eat?

The deep fried chocolate cake looks good, I'd try it, and hamburger pie.

I've had a Monte Cristo. Not something I'd eat often, but it was tasty.

Done right, cookiecakepie could be truly awesome, though the one pictured looks gross.

Swisswich A La Mode looks tasty. I used to love those little swiss cake rolls, especially how the outer layers of chocolate could be peeled off.

I looked at the first two pages. The only thing I'd consider eating without a gun to my head would be the deep fried chocolate cake, and I imagine it would be less tasty than it looks. And no way would I eat all of that, gross.

I'm intrigued by the burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches for the roll. "Burger" is an understatement but I am afraid to go back and look--I recall much bacon and fried eggs were involved.

I bravely looked at the first 3 pages, genuinely feeling more and more queasy.
Save for the taco on the first page, there is no way you could make me willingly chose to eat anything off these pages, unless on a dare.

I always wanted to bread and deep fry a Krystal burger (bun and all), then cut it in half, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and call it a Monte Krystal.

I would eagerly eat most things on that website. My two favorite food groups are cheese and fried.

FWIW, I'm pretty slim.

almost everything on the site makes me slightly queasy ...

I like the occasional burger, or grilled cheese sandwich [especially with tomato soup] and I even like eggs benedict in moderation ... but when you start stacking multiples and adding more crap on top of that,

For the love of god, WHY

Almost everything on the site is a horrible mess of crap. I think the only thing I would consider is the Bacon And Grilled Cheese Egg In The Hole ... because it is pretty much fried eggs, toast and bacon which is a fairly normal breakfast, just turned into a single sandwich.

I got as far down the first page as the mac & cheese grilled cheese sandwich and felt nauseated and could not continue. My answer is definitely "no" for it and everything that preceded it, though.

I'd eat some of almost everything on that site, though probably not the whole thing, because I'm not hungry enough for three whole pizzas or twelve pancakes.

Well, I got through the first couple of pages... Why is the Hamburger Pie listed? That is just a ground beef cassarole (or hot dish) in a boring crust... not really killer.

As for the rest - I can't eat dairy without getting pretty ill, so just about everything is out. I'd try a nibble of the few "eggy/bacony" things, but not much more than that. They don't say you have to eat that stuff by yourself, do they?

First, I propose we, as Dopers, come up with our OWN recipe and send it to the site. I once sent them the Primanti's website, but they never put it up.

Some of them are so obviously done on the fly -- like piling a bunch of Big Macs right on top of the other.

I've had cheeseburger pie -- it's basically just a casserole. I don't think that would count. But they didn't make it right...(I like the Bisquick version myself)

There was one a while back, where the woman's mother made her a birthday cake moulded to look like a cheeseburger -- it was just your average layer cake -- but she used different colored iceing, and shaped the layers to look like a hamburger patty, cheese, tomato, etc. (The lettuce she made from almond paste). It was really neat. But all in all, it was just a regular cake.

Then there were the guys that made a Rice Crispie treat the size of a kitchen table -- I'm guessing just for the hell of it. Since you could basically just have a piece of it...

I might taste the Snickers Puff (the puff pastry with snickers filling), but just a bite out of curiosity. I doubt I'd eat the whole thing. And the Cookie Cake pie doesn't sound too bad -- I'd probably try it once while out with my friends or whatever.

(One thing I love about that site -- it's GREAT for dieting. It makes me lose my appetite in a second!)

For the purpose of the thread, I'd say the serving size is the same as the "normal" thing it is based on. Like the hamburger pie would have 1 slice as a serving because a slice of pie is the normal way to eat pie, but the gigantic sandwiches are one serving because a normal serving of sandwiches are 1 sandwich. I mean the Sex Panther looks delicious, if it were a normal sized sandwich, but it is far to big.

And yeah, the hamburger pie really makes me laugh a little at all the eww, gross, you couldn't pay me to eat any of that stuff posts. I think it really shows how context and presentation effects our opinion on stuff.

And some are clearly the inspiration that comes from drinking and smoking pot--two frozen pizzas as the top and bottom of a creation--when else would you think of that!

The brat loaf is very similar to a dish served at the local German beer garden. Balls of bratwurst wrapped in kraut, and then breaded and fried. Really good with a good spicy brown mustard, or a blue cheese sauce.

And I'd order the Sex Panther just so I could order the Sex Panther. I'd eat about a 1/5 of it though.

The Creamtatos look delicious, though I'm not sure why they'd be "double deep fried".

I don't see anything wrong with the Bacon And Grilled Cheese Egg In The Hole. I'll probably make that this week!

The Twinkies in strawberry Jell-O gave me a shudder.

I'd eat the Hamburger Pie - I bet I already have.

I hate Gummi Bears, so the Twinkie sushi is out. Use candied cherries instead, and it might go better.

Shodan

I think those were actually Swedish fish - their taste and texture is very different from gummi bears.

"Where the Buffalo 'Rome'"- currently the newest posting. I like everything in it (pizzas and Buffalo wings) and I don't see them clashing too badly, so, taste-wise, yeah, I'd eat some of it. It's still stupid, though- how the hell are you supposed to eat something with a layer of wings in it? You'd end up just taking the whole thing apart again and eating the pizza and the wings separately. Like you would have if you hadn't combined them in the first place.

ETA: OK, just noticed that the wings are boneless. Fine, maybe you could just eat this with a knife and fork. I still don't see why combining everything is better than just eating them separately, except maybe that it gets you on the This Is Why You're Fat website.

Their website is mistaken--when it's served with maple syrup for dipping, it's a Vermonty Cristo.

A lot of it is inedible. But there are a few things that are badly photographed and poorly presented (still unhealthy, but a good food photographer could have made it look much better).

I'd eat the creamtatos. And bacon wrapped onion rings doesn't sound like a bad idea. (though I'd want them better photographed). And I'd try the infamous Paula Deen Krispy Kreme bread pudding (but I don't really like bread pudding, so it would probably be just a taste)

I have a damn near insatiable sweet tooth, so I'd definitely have a few bites of all of the sweet stuff (and more than a few bites if I didn't care about gaining weight and clogging my arteries.) All of the meaty stuff looks pretty disgusting to me, though. However, I do like sweet and meat- I have been known to put icing on bacon and eat it. Just looking at those pictures makes me feel a little panic-y, though, like I'm sure binge eaters must feel after eating like there's no tomorrow.

I've tried a Monte Cristo sandwich before. I thought it was ok. It probably would've been better but I think it was a little overcooked.

As a kid I used to put peanut butter and sugar on both french toast and pancakes, then top the whole thing with syrup. Probably a little too sweet nowadays but I would definitely have it again just leave off the extra sugar.

I once made a peanut butter and chocolate chip sandwich. A friend told me about it, and I thought I'd try it just for a lark.

My sister recently made chocolate chip pancakes. I don't think I could eat those, though. With syrup? Ick.

My brother made choco-peanut butter by mixing choco drink powder with the peanut butter. If memory serves, there was also a product that was chocolate stripes and peanut butter stripes in a jar, like the peanut butter and jelly in a jar.

Hmmm? Chocolate chip pancakes are a perfectly cromulent diner option, and really worth a try. Real maple syrup makes them even better.

According to my French ex, in many parts of France a "pain au chocolat" is simply a chocolate bar between two slices of toasted bread or baguette. I mean, how trashy can something be if the French eat it for a snack? Er, don't answer that...I remember several other "high gourmet" foods she remembered along those lines.

I would eat the grilled cheese and pepperoni pizza on page 5. Though, it's probably not as good as it looks...

The Widowmaker...it is frightening. Is that a large super sized thing of rum sitting there almost empty? That may be the inspiration for such a recipe.

Ooh! Bacon and Grilled Cheese Egg in the Hole! (I should really close the site, clearly I find the food disturbingly appetizing...)

I know. It was just a little too rich for me. To me, chocolate + maple syrup = ugh. Maybe with whipped cream instead.

Oh, hey -- I'm not saying it wasn't GOOD. Because it was. But then, I'll eat anything with peanut butter. (Well, there ARE limits) I guess that makes me a hypocrite.

I'd eat a forkful or so of most things on that site (the Krispy Kreme bread pudding looks especially tasty).

I'm not getting the mixture of sweet/savoury though (pork sausage with maple syrup, burger with peanut butter, Sausage McMuffin with doughnut, bacon with cake and chocolate etc). I don't know why anyone would want to combine sweet and savoury flavours to that extent. From a taste perspective, I don't think sausage meat has any business anywhere near a doughnut (I'm not even considering the health aspects here!)

Is it simply a question of "How can I make this less healthy? I know, I'll pour maple syrup on it!" or is the sweet/savoury combination just more widely accepted in the US than elsewhere?

I won't speak for the other combos, but salty breakfast meat like sausage or bacon goes well with real maple syrup. The salt and sweet play off each other really well. Plus, barbecue sauce and other sweetened sauces play well with savory meat.
