Ask the guy who hasn't lost his wallet, but doesn't know where it is.

I don’t know where my wallet is. I haven’t “lost” it because I haven’t started looking for it yet.

Ask away.

Where did you last see it?

I’m pretty sure that the definition of ‘losing ones wallet’ means exactly that you don’t have a clue where it is. Just because you haven’t begun looking for it means doodly-squat.

It’s gone mate. You’re doomed. Better start ringing the bank A/H numbers to cancel all yer’ cards, and don’t forget to ring your state rego peeps and Medicare tomorrow morning to get everything fixed.

Good luck.

Oh, and check under the carseat AND in the fridge…I’ve found mine there in both places on a few occasions.

In my hand. It’s not there anymore so I’ve probably put it somewhere, it’s possible I wasn’t looking when I put it down.

All good points. As things are always the last place you look and under the fridge and the carseat would normally be my last options, I’ll look there first. I’ll save looking in the hall table, where I usually keep it, till later when desperation sets in.

Everyone! Go check your walls!

At what stage are you going to panic?

Will you rope other people into the Great Wallet Search?

Are you angry at yourself?

Very relaxed at present as I haven’t commenced the search.

Maybe. I might try ringing my missing cell phone, maybe the person who possibly has it also has my wallet. Then I could ask them to send me some money.

Not yet.

Philosophical question to you. If I never start looking for my wallet, is it ever actually lost? (Kambuckta would say it’s already lost.)

What did you do with your hand after you “probably” put your wallet down? Use a mouse? Wipe your nose / bum? Sneeze (needing both hands free)? Wank?

These might be clues as to where you could look after the car and the fridge.

Intruiging.

It could be argued that wallets have two states - location known and location unknown. This is different to lost and found, because the found state has a pre-requisite of the lost state. However, I feel that the location unknown state and the lost state are equivalent enough to say yes, your wallet is lost.

Although one could argue for a third wallet state - location not currently being thought about. In this state, the wallet may or may not be lost.

It’s possible I’m overthinking this.

I don’t say I’ve lost my wallet till I’ve looked for it quite a bit. There’s plenty of times I don’t know where it is but I will usually find it with 5 minutes or so of looking. If I declared my wallet ‘lost’ every time I just didn’t know, I would be replacing my credit cards 3 times a week.

Do you often lose your wallet? How often have you really lost it, for real? How long do you normally look before you start to worry?

Mine was sorta lost for the last 36 hours. I knew with certainty I had it in the car after my last time in a store so it had to be either in the car, in my home, or at work. It’s too big to leave comfortably in my pocket and I’ve tried to be a purse carrier but I leave them places and then lose more than my wallet…

The answer to “when do you start to panic?” for me is usually about 24 hours. When I first notice that it (or whatever thing) isn’t where I expected it I imagine a logical place tolook for it. After that pattern repeats 4 or 5 times I begin to have doubts and wonder if it might have fallen out of my pocket and I didn’t hear it, etc.

Mine turned out to be on the shelf next to the “key pot” which was established because I’m also a key loser. I’ve placed my keys in and retrieved them from the pot easily half a dozen times since I first noticed my wallet missing. I don’t understand how I didn’t see it any of those times.

During that time I did have some cash and a debit card so I wasn’t in high gear panic. I did feel a little heartburny driving without a license but In each case I thought the wallet must be at the place I was headed.

Found it!

Thing is I never looked for it. I was putting my laptop into its bag and I discovered my wallet hanging out in there. If I had commenced a search for it, I wouldn’t have looked there. I would have looked in the hall table, in my dressing table, in my pockets, in the car, under the fridge etc. So I believe it was genuinely lost as it was not in a place I would’ve searched, had I searched.

Freaky.

Did you look in the last place? It’s always in the last place you look so look there first

Have you tried calling it from another wallet and following the sound of the ringing?

Ah, that’s the trick of it, you see! And now you can have some pie. Oops, that’s kittens with (or without, I suppose) mittens. Ach, same principle.

You should have just Googled it. Would have saved you a lot of time…

Is anything missing from it?
