Where is my wallet?

Last night I had my wallet in my hand. I got out of the cab, paid the driver, put my wallet back in my purse and came upstairs. We proceeded to play a game of Scrabble and watch the show Numb3rs before bed. Then today when I went to buy something on amazon my wallet had disappeared. I checked in my purse, in my blankets, on my nightstand, in the cushions of the couch, in the kitchen, under the bed, in the trash, and many other places to no avail. I checked on my cards and there have been no charges made so at this point I don’t think it has been stolen, just lost in the abyss that is my apartment.

Where the hell is my wallet?!? My roommate and I can’t find it at all so now I turn to you for help. Any place dopers tell me to check for my wallet I will indeed check in that spot. If you manage to direct me to the place where my wallet has hidden from me I will gladly take you out for pie or something (or send you a thank you gift if you live too far away to be taken out for treats!)

So come on guys, where should I be looking for my wallet?

Check the pockets of jackets/clothing worn last night.

Check outside…maybe you dropped it when you thought you put in back in your purse.

Check the refridgerator/freezer. Yes, I have mis-placed things there…never my wallet, but car keys have been chilled more than once…

Did you check the kitchen counters, cupboards or fridge?

What about UNDER your bed? Maybe it fell in the drawer of your nightstand?

Did you check all the pockets/sections of your purse? This is, of course, assuming you don’t carry a tiny a little purse.

Did you check the stairway you took? Did you check the sidewalk/gutter where you paid your cab fare?

How about your coat pockets? Pants pockets?

Hmmm, that’s all I’ve got for now.

…and I see that someone beat me to the punch for some of the places to look. Oh well.

Were you wearing anything with pockets last night? If so, check the pockets.

How big is this wallet? Could one of your cats have batted it under your furniture?

And did you find the two checks that are missing from my checkbook while you were looking for your wallet?

Right over there. No not there, THERE.

I checked my pockets, outside, in the stairwell, and in the refridgerator/freezer. It is not in any of these places.

As far as size goes it is about the size of a cell phone and it has a magnetic money clip on one side of it, which means depending on where it landed it could be attached to any number of metal things. I checked the stove and the radiators and I didn’t find it there either.

Keep the ideas coming!

Did you totally empty your purse? My purse is smallish, but I’ve still managed to lose things in it. Dumping it all out is the only way to be sure.

laundry hamper?

Look in the Scrabble box

Are you postive you didn’t leave it in the cab? Have you checked to see if it fell out of your purse in the hallway of your building or outside somewhere? (I know it’s probably a longshot that someone wouldn’t have taken it, but since they apparently haven’t tried to use the cards, maybe it’s under the steps or something)

Yes, I totally emptied it out and my roommate’s boyfriend helped me dig through the crap that had been in my purse to find it but it wasn’t there. I did check in the Scrabble box and under the bed and it wasn’t there either. I’m off to check the laundry hamper now.

Did you take all the cushions off the couch and not just check under them, but way down in the corners and sides of the inside of the couch? Under the couch and chairs? The bathroom? The cab company? I have a feeling it’ll be in the last place you’ll look!

When this happens to me, it’s usually because I’ve put something down on top of the missing object.

Just yesterday I was searching all over my apartment, including in the trash, trying to find one of my favorite necklaces. I finally found it in my bedroom…underneath my winter hat. So if you put down your hat, scarf, gloves, or coat on any chair or surface, be sure to pick them up, shake them out, and look underneath.

If your apartment is at all cluttered (like mine!) the only thing may be to start tidying up and putting things away.

I’ve got it. I’ll mail it back to you.

I’m gonna grab the ten outta it to pay for postage though. I have to ask though, what are you doing with George Clooney’s business card and phone number?

Tripler
Or maybe I don’t wanna know. . .

Ah, yes, check the trash!

Very good idea. Also check the bathroom- my husband is notorious for leaving wallet, sunglasses and/or car keys in the bathroom. He still has them in his hand when he makes his first “stop” in the house.

Any throw rugs around that it could have gotten pushed under?

I tried to report it to the lost and found with the cab company but they charge $14.99 to file a report. Since I don’t know it isn’t in the apartment I’m not paying to make a report quite yet.

Where did you put your purse after you came in the house? I would check around the areas where your purse has traveled. It could have fallen out at some point.

And why does the cab company charge you money to return a wallet that is obviously yours? It has your name on the credit cards. I think the lost and found report applies to unidentifiable objects. Otherwise it sounds shady and makes me think they’ll just keep your wallet.

Is it in the recycle bin? I read of someone whose brand-new MacBook Air had gotten put between some newspaper and then it was bundled up and away it went… 1800 dollars down the drain (or out the door, as the case may be).
