2010 Masters Pool

You have got 100 Doper Dollars to wager on 5-10 players. A bookie (William Hill) in England has posted these odds. odds will be listed in the second posts

you get return on your money if your player is in the top 10 after round. if he is leading, you will get 100% of your payback, if he is second, you will get 90% of your payback, 3rd = 80%, etc… all the way to 10% if your player is in 10th place. For the final round, everything is doubled!

For example, lets say that you put $10 on Tiger Woods, and he is leading after Round 1. You get a $50 return. ($10 * 5 * 100%). If you put $10 of Fred Couples and he is in 10th place after round 1 you get $110. ($10 *110 *10%).

You will get return on your bets if any of your players finish any round within the top 10.

You can go low risk for low rewards by betting on the favorites, or high risk for high rewards, or a blend of the two.

You have to pick at least 5 players, but no more than 10. And please make your bets in $5 increments. You can bet as much as $80 on any player (IE Tiger) and $5 on 4 other player you desire.

Please add an alternate to your picks in case there is a WD. (FYI, Vijay Singh has been a late WD for the last three weeks and Paul Casey WD last week).

Good luck. Listed odds in the next post:

Note: Tiger was listed at 9/2, but I rounded his odds up to 5/1 for simplicity.

Nothing on Shingo Katayama?

I ran out of bucks…

It’s an awfully un-American roster, isn’t it? I didn’t notice that at all while I was picking. I don’t think that Tiger can come back from that long of a layoff, let alone with the emotional baggage he is carrying. Phil is playing for shit so far this year. Augusta just isn’t kind to Steve Stricker’s game. There really aren’t any Americans that I think have a good shot, and the odds table confirms my feeling. I can’t understand why Tiger and Phil are favorites - it makes no sense, and logically, it is a terrible value for your betting dollar.

The last three guys are all great young players who are a gift at those odds. All I need is for one of them to come through and I’ll rake in the dough.

There, I’ve given away my strategy. I should have waited until Thursday morning to make my picks.

Actually, wouldn’t history suggest that an un-American roster would have pretty good chances at the Masters?

I probably wouldn’t have picked Tiger to win, but given the formula awarding points for top 10 finishes, I figured I had to include him.

Here’s a couple of side predictions. Tiger finishes in the top 5. And we don’t get 10 Dopers to participate in this worthy endeavor. Hope I’m wrong on both counts!

Thanks for running this.

What are there - 8 of us?

Yes 8 posters entered. Unfortunately you were correct in your prediction in an earlier post. We will see how the rest of your predictions do this coming weekend.

And FTR, I was the only entrant who has no money on either Woods or Els.

phungi nearly went with chalk on his bet. He bet on ten players, no one at longer odd than 40/1.
