Who is the better band, The Beatles or Oasis?

Howdy!

That’s the question, who is the better band, The Beatles or Oasis?

I humbly not ask to compare to any other bands like the Stones etc.

Beatles or Oasis?

Discuss.

You’re kidding, right?

I preferred the band Menswear myself.

Beatles. It isn’t close.

I’d say Oasis came in fourth place, behind the Beatles, the Who, and the Band.

Totally different leagues. The Beatles are the NY Yankees (spit!). Oasis is a t-ball team. For clumsy kids.

Oasis… remind me who they were?

If you did a poll, the odds are that more than 100% would vote for The Beatles.

That was my reaction too. After I quit laughing.

What’s to discuss?

Hell, I posed the question once, after watching this live performance of Kid Charlemagne, as to whether Steely Dan wasn’t actually a much better band than the Beatles. The board’s musicos answered right away, and the answer was “No.” :stuck_out_tongue:

And I would guess that the members of Oasis would be amongst those voting for the Beatles.

Liam Gallagher would probably punch the OP in the face just for asking.

Well, if the question is are the studio honchos hired by Becker and Fagen more proficient instrumentalists than the Beatles, well obviously yes. But a better band? Naw. They’re hardly a genuine band at all.

But the real reason I responded was to note that I was really grooving on this clip until they got to the chorus, where they totally fucked up the hook by shortening one note, changing it from “get aaa-long…” to “getalooong…”

ABBA is better than Oasis by a light year. The Beatles are two universes away.

Who the heck is Oasis, and why would they even merit comparison to the Beatles? Even to ask “is so-and-so better than the Beatles” is pretty high praise for so-and-so… Do these Oasis folks (whom I’ve genuinely never heard of) deserve even that?

The Beatles and who?

The OP’s question is stupid, but you honestly have never heard of Oasis?

I can remember (and probably recite a good portion of) at least a dozen Beatles songs given a few minutes, and I like most of them. Oasis… Oh yeah, they did wonderwall.

What was the question again?

Why is that surprising? My parents lived through Beatlemania as teenagers, and I can guarantee that neither of them have ever heard of Oasis.

Oasis was much bigger in the UK than they were on this side of the pond.

I saw 18 replies and had to see what the discussion was. Glad to see it’s about why this is even a question.
