As ever, you must narrow it down to only one choice.
If I had to pick one, which you forced us to, and how cruel is that, I guess it’d have to be Sweet Child o’ Mine. The entire album is amazing.
Without a doubt it’s Sweet Child o’ Mine, followed by Welcome to the Jungle and Mr. Brownstone.
I almost asked where November Rain was in the list, but just remembered it’s on Use Your Illusion. :smack:
I think “Sweet Child” is the iconic one, with one of the best guitar riffs ever. My favorite though, is “Rocket Queen”. 'Course, I can’t be subjective. I have certain…memories of that song being played on a shitty car stereo as background music.
The whole album is a greatest hits record though. Not a bad song on it, and I would call better than half of them classics.
Yep, Rocket Queen is really good. I love the change in the second half of the song.
Yeah, I picked Sweet Child O’ Mine mainly because it’s got an amazing performance by Slash, but I could have picked Welcome to the Jungle, Mr. Brownstone, Paradise City, or a couple of others.
This is one of the best hard rock albums ever made. Maybe the best.
Sweet Child, because my fiancee sings it to me
“Rocket Queen” is underrated, and I think is the best constructed song on the album with some of the best riffs and melodies. It wasn’t one of the radio hits, but I think it’s the strongest overall song.
I also like “Mr. Brownstone,” and “My Michelle.”
Because of this thread I just listened to Rocket Queen again after about 10 years, and it’s better than I remember it. It’s a very close second to Sweet Child o’ Mine, IMO.
I sympathize with all of you about how hard it is to pick just one song off this amazing, amazing album.
Having said that, I’m kind of surprised that no one’s yet shown any love for the balls out aggression of “It’s So Easy”.
“Mr. Brownstone” wins running away. Seems like it’s a lot of people’s 2nd favorite. I think the hits suffer from having been overplayed, which isn’t really their fault but such is life. If I had to pick a second, it would be “Rocket Queen”.
“Nighttrain” then “Rocket Queen,” IMHO.
Appetite is one of my 5 desert island records, its that good. Favorite song on the album is pretty hard, but I would probably choose Rocket Queen.
I love Nightrain. So much fun. The whole album is pretty damn good, but I don’t like Sweet Child at all. I mean, have you ever listened to the lyrics? Bleh!
Sweet Child, which is also my answer to the burning question “If you were Marty McFly and had to pick one song from the future to play in a 1955 sock-hop*, which would it be?”
*Being a movie, we assume you and the band have the chops.
Interesting that “Sweet Child 'O Mine” is the most popular choice (and probably the most popular song they ever wrote), since by their own account they wrote in 5 minutes and intended it just to be filler. Slash said he originally played that signature opening riff as a joke during a rehearsal (He called it “just a string skipping exercise,” and thought it sounded like “circus music”). Duff and Izzy immediately started improvising chords and a bass line to it, Steven started playing drums, and Axl jotted down some lyrics.
At one point, they thought they needed a break, so wondering what to do, Axl said “Where do we go? Where do we go now?” They told him just to sing that, so he did, they jammed with that, and just like that, an iconic hit was born.
I can’t answer this poll with only one choice, for me it’s a toss up between Sweet Child O Mine, Nighttrain, Mr. Brownstone and Paradise City. I also like my michelle as a ballady offering.
It’s so easy is a sleazy song… I love the riff but hate the sleazy lyrics.
Sweet Child of Mine.
