I have a job! - happy dance-

As I posted before, I have been a stay-at-home-mom for the last 12 years. That’s a really really long time. Going back to the work world was scary… especially in the current economy. But when my husband took a major hit to his income, I could postpone it no longer.

But this job actually sort of found me. There is this awesome organization here in town that teaches kids about science and engineering, with after school classes, in-school demonstrations, and summer camps. When my kids attended last summer I got to know the guy who runs it. After a while he asked me to be on a committee to work out some of the details of how it should be run and what they should focus on. And now I’m actually being paid to plan, organize and run the summer camp.

Not only am I employed, but I’m doing something that I think is worthwhile… and the job is (hopefully) actually fun!

Happy dance!

Sounds great, congratulations!

Wow, good for you! :joins in the happy dance:

I’m in something of the same boat, except that my last full-time job was almost 15 years ago. I’ve just started part-time English teaching through a language school and through group lessons in a local kindergarten, which is occasionally terrifying, given my lack of formal qualifications. So far, I’ve been able to pull everything together in time for each lesson, but I have occasional flashes of I’m a complete fraud and I have no idea what I’m doing. Then I take a deep breath, decide what I’m going to cover in the next session, put together the materials, and have a blast with my students.

Good luck to you!!

Congratulations and best wishes to the newly-employed!

Woohoo! Wishing you luck in your new career!

Congratulations! I just found an awesome part-time job myself, with decent pay and hours that I pretty much set myself, plus a very cool boss.

Thanks for your good wishes everyone!

Really excited for you, Palo Verde! It seems that you may have created your own job, in a way- way to go!!
Congratulations to the job finders, a feat of sorts these days!

Good for you.

Wow, is that one of those high tech or STEM camps? My daughter went to one during vacation last year and loved it.

Congrats!

Talk about a win-win - a job, and doing something eminently worthwhile.

W00t for Palo Verde!

Regards,
Shodan

Huge congrats! My wife is going through a similar situation right now and has picked up some great project work which may lead to something. It’s a brave new world out there…

Congratulations!

Kudos! A win-win!

My local newspaper just did an article on my organization. I’m not interviewed, but I organized all the interviews and pictures. I’ve been working here 4 months now and I still love it. They have agreed to keep me on permanently even after the camp is through.

"Ever built a catapult that could launch a pumpkin?

How about a device that sends sounds by way of a laser beam?

Have you ever taken apart a DVD player or a copier just to see how it works?"

Wow. That sounds like a dream job.

Wonderful!!!

What a cool job! Congratulations!

That is so great! Yay Palo Verde!
