Several counties in central NC had tornadoes touch down today. Everyone OK?
Our neighborhood has lots of bits of insulation and tree twigs strewn about, and a friend had a small chunk of trailer land in her driveway, but we’re OK. I hear some buildings on South Saunders Street in Raleigh were destroyed though.
Heavy winds here in Charlotte, but no damage. Last Saturday we had a 150’ black oak come down and flatten our fence. Luckily it wasn’t too close to the house. Anyone need any firewood?
All is well in Monroe. We barely even got any rain here. A small thunderstorm came through this afternoon. It only lasted about fifteen minutes. I haven’t talked to my friends in Charlotte yet.
Last Saturday’s storms were rough for some of them. One had just gotten a new car. He only had about 400 miles on it.
I’m here! We just got power back in this part of Wake Forest about 20 minutes ago. The remains of the tornado cell that went through downtown Raleigh apparently passed right by us. We didn’t have any damage.
Ditto here, although there were a few times I half expected to look outside and see an old lady on a broomstick flying by.
I hadn’t thought to check the front yard for fallen branches. I few weeks ago we had a big windstorm and when I went out in the morning to get my paper there was a huge branch blocking my driveway and sidewalk. I was barely able to lug it onto the grass. Fortunately the HOA landscape crew came by later and hauled it off.
We’re fine here north of Chapel Hill - the storm here didn’t seem any worse than any others we’ve had in the 10 years we’ve lived here, though the storms we’ve had over the last few months have had higher winds than what we’ve been used to.
The news folks were having a field day - I think pretty much the entire evening TV lineup was canceled in favor of storm coverage.
Well, I just called Polycarp, and Gravedigger. Couldn’t get connected. Ditto for Liberal, and Edlyn. I seem to have lost Aenea’s phone number. NC phone service is probably overloaded. My sister and her family were in Raleigh, but they are fine. I am pretty sure Poly is on dial-up, so he probably won’t be able to log on for a while.
Cell service was a bit off in this area yesterday…I had complete phone and internet service (AT&T), my mother’s older AT&T phone could not complete calls, and a neighbor down the street could had spotty phone service and no internet service (provider unknown). Mom’s phone is working fine today; I haven’t talked to the neighbor yet.
just had a lot of rain and wind and some thunder and lightning in Chapel Hill. But then my friend posted on his facebook pictures of the aftermath of the tornado in Raleigh and I was surprised. I was like “there was a tornado?” Wasn’t paying attention to the news reports.
My parents lost power for a couple of hours, but they’re okay. The same cannot be said for a couple of students at my sister’s school. The tornado pushed a tree over onto their mobile home.
There is a silver lining, though. My brother, a carpenter who’s been laid off since June, should be able to get his job back.
I haven’t been on the board for a couple of days, but my family are all OK. My mom left the Lowe’s that got demolished in Sanford 15 minutes before the funnel hit it. I was in Hillsborough at the time and didn’t know anything about the severity of the storms till I checked in with my husband around 7pm. I am from Sanford originally and the devastation there is just unreal.
Has anyone else found unexpected storm debris? This showed up in my yard Saturday (I didn’t get to scan it until yesterday). I guess it was in one of the storage units that was hit.
