U.S. Southerners: Are you ok?

With all the tornadoes in the South, how about y’all check in here and let us know how you’re doing?

(special shoutout to Beck)

North Alabama here. Lots of rain and thunder and some flash flooding, but nearest tornado was 70 miles south of here. Has dropped the temperature from the mid-70’s to the high 50’s.

Metro The Big Peach.

Was woken up by a really big boom near midnight. Decided to go downstairs and do a storm watch. Turns out the boom was just an isolated one. The real line was still a ways away.

There was first a cluster of tornado warnings N. of town. Then a cluster S. of town. (One quite close to the airport. They have a lot of planes just sitting out on unused runways/taxiways. That would have been bad if those got hit.)

I was hoping we’d “thread the needle” thru a calmer spot in the line. I was watching the airport ones warning box and mentally extending it. Once the line was nearly to us, I decided to wake up Mrs. FtG and have us both get dressed and ready to get to the basement. By the time I got back to the bedroom a new warning was up with us just off the edge of it.

But nothing really bad happened when the line hit. It was moving very fast so over rather quickly.

According to the news, a major highway near us has fallen trees blocking it. This might be a problem way back when, BCV. But not now.

Something like 7 dead in the state when I checked earlier. (Covid-19 smirks at the puny death toll.)

Tornado hit the next county over from me and lots of people in my county are unelectrified, but no problems for me personally.

Beck’s power is out.

not much here in NC except rain and some wind. There were pockets of power outages but not widespread.

While there are lots of pics and video of the destruction, the one that seems to get the most interest is a house dropped onto a road. Occurred S. of Atlanta. (This tornado cell was the “next one over” from the one that passed near us.)

No one was in the house at the time, not even a Dorothy. Nor an old woman wearing ruby slippers underneath it.

There’s been a lot of heavy rain and wind in central Arkansas. Thankfully no terrible damage near me or my relatives.

South Arkansas got hit harder and has more property damage and electric outages.

A tornado (or possibly 2) touched down in Williston/New Ellenton SC, which is about 3 miles from my house. It was a wild pre-dawn morning, and the lightning flashes I could see from my bedroom window were intense, almost non-stop. A good deal of damage done but nobody seriously hurt, thank goodness. And I’m pretty astounded that we never lost power considering the weird surges and power blips that are an everyday occurrence here.

I’m thanking my stars and Fates that it missed us …

I lived through it. It was loud and fast, on us before we knew it. Never had time to take cover.
The power came on late last night. I had time to check in on the Dope. Reset one clock and it was out again til early this morning.

So glad that’s over.
Panache, thanks for your concern.
