You ok? (Nashville tornado/storm)

Are all of our Dopers in the Nashville, and surrounding areas, doing ok? The tornado reports are horrific!

I’m east of Nashville. I didn’t know anything happened until I checked CNN this morning. Although my German shepherd, who normally doesn’t sleep with me (the other 4 dogs do), climbed into bed and wanted to be right next to me in the middle of the night. Horses came up for breakfast this morning and the barn is still standing.

StGermain, that’s good to hear!

Moderating: this is the kind of thread that should have a more descriptive title in case anyone is wondering. I’m going to change it for you.

I live south of Nashville. The office where I work is close to where tornados hit. Office and co-workers are without power. I was scheduled to work remotely so no direct effect.

My area only got heavy rain and hail, I have seen drone footage from east of me and they got hit hard.

Yeah, I work from home but got a text from my boss that some folks in the Nashville (Metro Center) office lost their homes.

Thank you, Loach.

Author Balk, at least the office is still standing. So, there’s that. Glad you’re ok.

xizor, yeah. I’ve been trying to keep up with the pictures, and videos, that they’re showing. Awful stuff.

StGermain, that’s terrible news! Those poor people.

Southeast of Nashville here.

Work sent me home.

No damage here, but the Nashville damage is frightful.
70+ MIA.

Glad you didn’t get any damage. The pictures/videos that I’ve seen of the Nashville damage, well, it’s horrible.

Not in Nashville, but my brother is, and lost his house.

They (brother, partner, 3-year-old son) were in East Nashville, near Five Points, and had been asleep for hours when the windows all smashed in at 1am. No basement, so they huddled in the bathroom doorway while a good chunk of the roof lifted off. After the storm passed they were trapped for 2 hours because of structural damage in the back, and power lines down in the front.

Luckily, it was a rental, and even more luckily, they found a new rental house yesterday. Less luckily for the neighbors, the house next door was completely destroyed.

They’re all sort of preternaturally calm about the whole thing; I don’t think they quite know what they’ve been through just yet.

Wow, masonite! I’m sorry to hear that your brother, and his family, lost their house! That’s heartbreaking. It’s great that they found another, and, most importantly, they are all ok!

Damn lucky to find a house, in Nashville’s tight market.

masonite, glad your family is OK, they probably were still running on adrenaline and concern for the little one. Bet it hits them hard tonight.

Is it? I didn’t know. Their nice landlady had another unrented property at the same price a mile away.

Pics below. (Hope this is allowed to do on SDMB, I can’t remember?) The divot in the lawn is really striking to me on second glance — this is a piece of debris going at a couple hundred MPH. One is really glad one’s head wasn’t right there at that moment.

Thanks for the concerns. I’m very worried about them getting PTSD or other issues. My bro’s partner in particular has been quite weirdly cheerful and upbeat since it happened.

Any ideas for a pretty expensive housewarming gift? What I’d like to do is send them all on a luxury vacation to somewhere warm and sunny, but I’m not that rich and they have to get back to their jobs next week.

You might want to check on that site with the pictures, masonite, it tried to install software from 'margefrick.com" on my machine, which google shows as a virus (running spyhunter now on my computer).

masonite, that had to be frightening! The damage! It’s very sobering. I think I’ll get a new weather alert radio tomorrow. Our old one finally stopped working, and I have put off replacing it for a couple of years. It’s time!

Yikes, apologies!

Mods, can you delete the links?

If anybody is interested in the pics re-posted, I could do with a recommendation for quick/free/easy upload site with no malware. So sorry, I picked the first hit from Duck Duck Go and had no problems myself.

I’m reporting my post with the bad links.

Done.
