Gloria Allred - why does she show up in every scandal?

Gloria Allred seems to show up at every scandal. Usually with some big titted bimbo that was the object of some famous horny guys affection.

This time she was at porn star Ginger Lee's press conference talking about Weiner.

Why Allred? Is that her cause in life? Representing every woman that gets caught up in a sex scandal?

Has she ever done any legitimate legal work? What's her agenda?

Well, Wikipedia points to a case she took pro bono regarding denial of marriage licenses to gay couples. She probably gained some more notoriety for that, but that case, at least doesn't involve a money grubbing bimbo. So brownie points there, IMHO. There are some other "nice" cases, depending on your point of view.

Her notoriety may make her more effective, at least in getting a settlement, and she appears to be competent. My running joke, back when he was alive, was to reference Johnie Cochran -- if I thought someone had set them up for a hopeless fall, I'd say "You can't afford Johnie Cochran, so I'd suggest you settle down and compromise." I guess Gloria is now my new go to with that joke.

According to her she has done considerable legal work and her agenda is:

Well, when an outrage like this is committed against two young girls enjoying our national pastime, that is when you will see Ms. Allred leap into justice-seeking action.

In this clip we see her working tirelessly to ensure that those two little girls never had to witness anything like that again.

It's worth noting that in this case, like many others, there is no reason for her client to need legal representation. What Allred really provides is PR and entree to the world of book deals, paid interviews, etc.

Allred also represented Scott Peterson's paramour, Amber Frey, during Peterson's high-profile murder trial in 2004. Frey was a witness for the prosecution, but Allred represented Frey's interests alone -- I don't believe Allred was actually part of the prosecution team proper.

In any case, Allred is credited with successfully keeping Frey's background private during cross-examination ... but I don't know specifically what Allred did in court. Raised timely objections, I imagine.

She litigates through press conferences more so than courtrooms. In cases where someone with means is clearly in the wrong, or someone with means has clearly been wronged, then she knows all she has to do is hold a press conference, dangle the potential, lasting damage she is prepared to do to reputations under their noses, and then before any complaints are filed sends a letter offering to settle out of court. Her clients generally get big checks in the mail at the end of the whole circus.

Until we moved to California, I had never heard of Gloria Allred.
However, in the 12 years we lived there, she was in every single Gay Pride Parade in West Hollywood and seemed to be sincerely happy to take part and was having fun.

I figured anyone who would schlep out of bed early for this long parade, and smile, laugh and wave to the crowd for the hours it took to participate, couldn't be all bad.

Sure, she is a media whore (and is there any community in the US that doesn't have some attorney advertising day and night?) but at least she wasn't afraid to mingle with the riffraff and gladhand everyone she met along the way.

If I ever need a high powered attorney to take my case and get much needed publicity, I would most certainly give Gloria a call.
