How does Gloria Allred make money?

I don’t watch much daytime TV but I noticed a little while ago that Gloria Allred is now a TV “judge”. I always wondered how she makes money. Whenever I have seen her it has been in front of a camera or at a press conference with whatever woman happens to be in the middle of a scandal. Good publicity but all I have seen is her talking in situations that no money is changing hands. I understand that there may be out of court settlements I have not heard of it. I have never heard of her being involved in a big case or with any big settlements. Maybe some things have been reported in CA that I am unaware. To me it just seems she is famous for press conferences and not for being a lawyer. So how did she make money before her current TV gig?

never mind

Allred is a prolific attorney and partner of a major law firm in California, and the far majority of her clients are not exposed to media attention. I have the impression that earns significantly more than an average attorney. I’ve seen some interviews with her, and I recall her saying something to the effect that she will accept some clients pro bono initially with contract clauses to include percentages of future income related to interviews, books, other media, settlements, etc (sort of like an agent). Her high profile clients tend to be people who were unexpecedly or suddenly tossed into the spotlight due to associations with or witness to scandals (two Tiger Woods’ mistresses, one of Herman Cain’s mistresses, Scott Peterson’s mistress, a porno actress who texted with Anthony Weiner, Britney Spears’ bodyguard, Nicole Brown’s relatives, many harassment accusers of celebrities, etc.). There seems to be a pattern where typically a press conference is held for Allred to announce her representation of a client and tell the client’s side of the story. Average people caught in these situations do not have big shot attorneys on retainer, and Allred seems sympathetic to them and publicity is good for future business. Allred’s non-famous cases typically involve harassment or discrimination lawsuits.

That makes sense. What she does publically looks more like the work of an agent than a lawyer. I don’t know how effective she is because to me she just comes off as slimey. Even compared to other lawyers.
