25 days until it comes out, is anyone else psyched about this? From all the interviews I’ve read it seems like the developers have put more thought into this game than most filmmakers put into their movies. Check out this awesome teaser trailer.
I’m currently re-playing the original in anticipation of the new release.
I’m a little apprehensive since Dues Ex 2 was such a turd. Anyone know if it will be more like the original than the sequel?
Several game reviewers and extra-legal independent quality control inspectors have played a demo that was said to be several hours long. It sounds like they have gone back to basics and have tried to make a reboot more in line with the original. Everything I’ve heard from those that claim to have played is good. I am usually fairly busy and don’t have much time to invest in gaming, so I tend to wait and get twice as many games after a few months when they drop to half price, but I decided to splurge and preorder the Augmented Edition so I can plow through it a couple times before school starts.
The first game still ranks as one of my top 5 games of all time. This is technically a prequel to the first game, but if you are new to Deus Ex there is also a novel out that introduces some of the conspiracy elements and the general history of the game’s universe. I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m finding it an entertaining, if somewhat quick read.
I especially like the enhancile vs non-augmented aspect they are playing up in this iteration. It was always kinda there in the first game, but I’m glad to see deeper into the divisions it causes in society.
Mark me down as fairly excited.
Did you guys watch the trailer I linked to in the OP? It’s better than most movie trailers, and I think brings up some pretty chilling points about what the future could really be like.
I haven’t been this excited about a game for at least the last 5 years, and I don’t usually get drawn into prelaunch hype. Hopefully it’ll be great.
Well, I’d hope so considering a movie lasts 3 hours and this should last at least 10.
I’m exited, but I’m still going to wait for the reviews before I make a decision. The sequel was a load of crap in a half-load sack.
Meh, the sequel wasn’t that bad at all. It just wasn’t nearly as good as the original.
Still, I’ll wait till I see reviews to pick this one up.
PC Gamer UK gives it a 94% and spends most of the review talking about all the interesting things you can do. For example he carried a vending machine to a roof threw it off to distract gang members then jumped off the roof using a parachute type aug and walked out of the place. Aside from the 4 boss fights you can stealth the entire game. It really sounds like you can combine and have very different experiences depending on your playstyle and what you want to do.
Oh also the developers more or less said they were ok with people playing and distributing the leaked demo and let people discuss it on their website so nobody has to feel any guilt about tracking down a copy and seeing for themselves (it’s also a really good sign they are confident enough of the game that an early leaked demo didn’t concern them)
A couple people here are saying that IW was crap. I sort of disagree. Yes, the game wasn’t as good as the original but that is because the original was so good that the sequel was bound to disappoint.
Granted, IW made a couple of mistakes, mainly being geared more to consoles than the PC. But the game play of IW isn’t bad, the majority of its issues are related to story line, IMO.
On the off chance that HR is going to be anywhere on the same level of the first game, I am getting it right away. If it as good as the sequel then I may be a bit unhappy that I paid full price for it but it will still be playable. If the game is as good as the original then paying full price will seem like a steal.
Just for the record, I played IW before I played Deus Ex. My dislike of IW (badly paced, bad stealth, boring combat, bad dialogue, boring voiceover, meh music - but the plot, setting and controls were somewhere between OK and good) has nothing to do with being the Deus Ex equivalent of a No Mutants Allowed denizen. But yes, there were certainly a lot of people for whom IW would never have been a adequate sequel unless it cured cancer.
I love PCGamer. I read their site every day. A 94% from them is what I was hoping for. That said, that’s the same score they gave Dragon Age 2. (But if Rockpapershotgun is with them, I’m gold.)
Ok, I just read a couple of the PCGamer articles. Now I’m excited. The original is one of my favorite games of all time. If this feels like it, as PCG claims, then I’m sold.

Official Xbox Magazine gave it 10/10
Official Playstation Magazine gave it 8/10
This is definitely the game of the year. The leaked demo has completely crushed all my expectations.
This looks incredible.
Also, IW was HORRIBLE. It took the wonderful openness of Deus Ex and put it on rails (except there was always a vent to crawl through if you didn’t want to go through the door. Whoopty fuck.)
In preparation for the new game, I wanted to review the story of Deus Ex, so I’ve been playing through on Easy mode with cheats on just to blow through it – basically just XP and expendable items like ammo and lockpicks. And yet, I can’t seem to stop myself from carefully managing inventory items that I can just give myself free.
I must admit that I am no longer impressed with the graphics. Once upon a time, I was astonished by the shiny floors and I thought the seats in the airplane had a surprising depth to them. Now the floors look gimmicky and the seats look flat.
Installing now.
Any early impressions?
Actually, not. I was wondering why the download was taking so long…
Wait, what? I thought it wasn’t out until the 23rd/26th?
It’s not. I just bought it on steam then clicked download. The reason it was taking so long to download is that it wasn’t. Because its not out for three weeks.
