Need answer fast. I want to post something that looks like a quote, but when you click on it, it links you to the original source for the text.
Thanks.

Thanks, but not as helpful as I had hoped.
I figured it out, though. Put the hyperlink coding outside the quoted text coding, like so:[url=“http://dummylink.com”}[quote}text[/quote}[/url}
Except close the tags with brackets instead of braces.
or do it the easy-peasy way. In the post box (reply box) have the link ready on your clipboard (copy it) then click the hyperlink symbol (the little world with 2 chain links). This opens a window in which you can paste your link. when it appears in the reply box some of the link will be highlighted. type what you want to appear instead of the link and it will magically take the place of the highlighted text! Piece of cake, easy as pie!
…
Since this is a question about how to use the Straight Dope forums, I’ve moved it to ATMB.

Did it work?
Yes, but I had to change the “[” in kaylasdad99’s post to “{” in order to get it to work, because it parsed the square brackets weirdly. Use kaylasdad99’s method, but replace curly brackets with square ones. Make sure there are no square brackets anywhere else in your post. Or else figure out what it was parsing screwily when I tried it without altering his quote.
Also, sorry mods, for the rule violation vis altering things in the quote box.
Worked!
Durn you, njtt! I was going to goat a link.
That goat a link, not *lick. *You shouldn’t be licking goats. It isn’t sanitary.
I dunno, njtt, that looks more like a terminus than a link
I’m sorry but I am not clicking on goat links.
You have to have a mustache to connect it to.
