Christmas Cards for Doper Kids 2011

Christmas is coming! Following on the success of Christmas Cards for Doper Kids 2010, Christmas Cards for Doper Kids 2009, Christmas Cards for Doper Kids 2008 and the original Christmas Cards for Doper Kids, in which Dopers were requested to send Christmas cards to Dopers' kids who liked getting cards addressed directly to them, is there any interest in another go for this year? I'm sure there are still Doper kids who would enjoy getting their own personal cards from far off (or nearby) places, and I would enjoy sending them out again.

I would love to send some. My boys have always loved their cards and I'd like to repay the favor.

I have never done this before but I would love to send and my 9 year old daughter would love to receive. Mine would have to go out a bit early since we have our second doper baby due on the 23rd of Dec and I don't want to forget sending a kid a Christmas Card amidst labor chaos.

I'm living in China, so we don't receive many Christmas cards but I'm sure it would thrill my 4 year old son to see his name. This is my 1st time doing this, so I'm not exactly sure about the setup. Due to cost and no store to buy Christmas cards, we'll not be able to return the favor though. Sorry.

I have two boys, 6 and 4. I know they would like to get a couple of Christmas cards, and send a couple. My oldest son is fascinated with world geography, so an international card exchange would be more than welcome. Sign me up for two!

I'll be happy to send one or two and, as I have no kids, nobody needs to return the favor for me. Never done this before either.

I can send up to 3.

I've done this before and as I recall, someone IM'd me with their child's name and address. I think Bookkeeper may have matched up senders and receivers.

So we have - receiving:

Lancia's 2 sons
Edward The Head's 2 daughters
Wolverine's son
Mahaloth's daughter
Stendhal Syndrome' daughter (and baby!)
ShelliBean's sons

and sending:

Bookkeeper
HeyHomie
gardentraveler
Sunspace
not what you'd expect
purplehorseshoe
Eonwe
Lancia
Edward The Head
Mahaloth
Stendhal Syndrome
ShelliBean
Butterscotch
Ppai325

Can those who want cards for their kids PM me with names and addresses? I will send them on to those who want to send out cards. (This may work best given the larger number of senders this year.)

My kids would love to get some mail!
My daughter is 11, my son is 5 and the newest isn't due until January so he won't need one this year!

We'd love to send some out too!

Yeah! I got a list to send cards to. A question please. Should the cards show Santa as the sendee? I'm assuming so, but I know how much trouble assuming has gotten me into, so I figured I should clarify.

Sorry for the double post, but I thought of another question.

I don't have an age on some of the kids. How should I handle that? A 3 year old would get a different sort of card from an 11 year old, so I'm not sure.

Thanks for the help.

As far as what age level of card/Santa signature, I send cards that I think will appeal to any age of child, and sign them with my SDMB name so that the parents will know who it's from.

Mine are going in the mail tomorrow morning.

Ditto -- PM the name and address. The cards won't be real fancy but I'll be sure to use some old funky postage.

I've gotten a couple already for the kids. Since they don't live with me I haven't opened them yet, though they will this weekend. I have been trying to find nice cards from the area, but haven't been able to find good ones. I will make a couple tonight and send them out.

Recieved today two cards from pai325. My boys were thrilled, and immediately ran to the atlas to find Illinois.

Many thanks for doing this.

Basically every last one of mine reads:

"Hello, and Merry Christmas! I am a friend of your mom/dad, and they told me you would enjoy getting a Christmas card from a stranger. So, here you go! Merry Christmas, and my all your dreams come true. HH"

I just wrote "Greetings from the US capitol" or something close to that since I live near DC.

I also got two more from Canada today, one for each child, so a total of 5 so far. I'll have the girls open them this weekend, I'm sure they will enjoy it.

I'm pretty sure I'm not you either. I found some old 33 cent baseball stamps, and since I needed stamps I just used them, mostly the boys got them. I thought that would be more interesting then the 'forever' stamps that I had.

Ok, 10 cards posted! Unfortunately the Italian post is not using stamps, so there's an ugly printed sticker instead... However, I was able to find (slightly twee) cards that were in Italian, which is tricky as they mostly sell cards that are in English for some strange reason...

Hope they start arriving soon

I just received the first Christmas card from the StraightDope to make it to China. Thanks! My best guess is that it takes about a week to get here. When my son gets home from school today, I'll have something to show him! Thanks again.

I've gotten quite a few in the last week. The girls opened them this weekend and had fun doing so. Now my house looks a lot more like Christmas too with the tree and cards up. They really liked the cat cards too as my youngest really likes cats.
