So I found this list on a list of (supposedly) 100 foods you should try before you die.
The source is a Facebook application, so I can’t link to it. Looking it over, though, I think it’s a pretty good list and it made me curious who on here could lay claim to trying the most things on it.
I’m just going to post the list rather then make a poll out of it due to there being a hundred things.
I’ve tried 38 things on the list, myself. That puts me in the lead, right now, by default.
I’m putting the list under a spoiler tag since it’s a bit long.
Actually, looks like 92. Here’s what I haven’t had:
Bellini (this is a champagne cocktail, not blini, which I have had) , bird’s nest soup, crickets (although I’ve had cicada), fugu, snake (although I may have had rattlesnake sausage once; I can’t remember), som tam (I’ve been meaning to), squirrel (unless I unknowingly had it in a pot of burgoo), and umeboshi.
Though I had to check the list with my wife, because she cook a lot of different foods and I can’t recall half of them.
Oops, 78. I didn’t bother reading her “umeboshi” at first, but when I did she said “it’s pickled plum, and yes you’ve had it in a paste.” Jesus I hope I truly appreciate the work she puts into cooking.
48, and I don’t consider myself especially adventurous, just open-minded. I’d expect anyone near my age (30 in a couple weeks) to have a similar count.
The only Japanese I really eat is at sushi and the occasional izikaya joint. I’ve actually never had bento. Yet I’ve had uni (sea urchin) many times. Go figure.
88 for me. The ones I haven’t tried include absinthe, cricket, currywurst, haggis, head cheese, kangaroo, Moon Pie, nettle tea, phaal, pineapple and cottage cheese (?), prickly pear, and squirrel.
I’m curious about the pineapple and cottage cheese one. I’ve had them both individually, but what’s so special about the combination of the two together?
