I say "Islam" What's the first thing you think of?

Inspired by thisthread on Germany

What’s the very first thing that springs to mind when you think of Islam? Or has you-know-what coloured your first impressions of it?

Quran, Muhammad, Five Pillars

Five pillars (I teach them every year)

Minaret.

I should post my first thought
The cruelty of halal slaughter
spreads some fois gras pate on his veal burger

Dude in a skullcap paying to Mecca in austere surroundings.

Some generic Christian frothing at the mouth about how evil it is.

Five prayers a day facing Mecca, racial profiling.

That lion from Narnia.

No wonder he’s in austere surroundings, he pays too much. (okay, I’m bad)

Who don’t they froth at?

This is the smartest stupid answer ever. Many caliphs were called Aslan.

First thing that comes to mind is the sound of the adhan, or the call to prayer.

Second, of course, is memories of playing Age of Empires 2, playing as the Teutons, and getting my Teutonic Knights shot to shit by Saracen camel archers. But first is definitely the Adhan.

Beautiful mosques. The muezzin call to prayer. Dusty cities. Decent but poor people with an all-encompassing faith.

? I dunno…

An image of a star and crescent on a green field? That’s weird.

The Taj Mahal.

The religion that Americans misunderstand.

The muezzin call to prayer. Beautiful.

Terrorism.

I’m quite surprised that no-one has yet given the same answer.

For some reason, a mosque in early morning sunlight. Not quite sure where that detail came from.

The word “Allah”, written in Arabic.

I think of this guy. As well as a reletive of mine named as such.
