What exactly is good about Islam?

Speaking in an objective sense, for those who argue that Islam is not a bad religion, and that it is peaceful and not a threat or danger, and not illogical, tell me, how is it good? Because it seems like many of the things people who don’t condemn Islam condemn are part of Islam.

For example, the beating of women: the Quran says that hitting women is allowed if they do not obey your orders, which can include not leaving the house or speaking to certain people. An example of how it is illogical: fasting. It also claims that it is the only true religion and nonbelievers should be shunned, apostates killed.

There are many other examples, but I just want to hear some of the reasoning behind your unfounded support for Islam.

It’s no better or worse than the other Abrahamic religions, or much different from religions generally. Anything you criticize Islam for, you can also find in other religions.

I’m aware of that, but in this thread I’m criticizing Islam specifically.

Well actually you’ve stockpiled enough straw to keep us all warm through the winter.

Alas, other people will continue to post their own opinions in “your” thread. There are some horrific things in the Old Testament. From the generally non-horrific Book of Psalms:

Fasting? Ever heard of Lent?

Killing for the Faith? Pick up a history book to find Christians killing non-Christians. Or killing The Other Kind of Christian.

Why?

I have no “unfounded support” for Islam or most any religion, and I believe the world would be a better place if we found more rational reasons to hate other people than that they worship wrong.

To what end? You appear to be singling out Islam as worth of special criticism and people are pointing out the poor logic of your argument. If you intend to criticize all religion you should just do so and not bring in what appears to be an additional agenda.

The reason I’m mainly criticizing Islam is because of Trump’s recent victory and many liberals have been claiming Muslims and Islam isn’t that bad of a religion.]
Which is why I said this:

What does one of those have to do with the other?

His claim that he would ban Muslims/people from Muslim regions has made a lot of liberals jump to the defense of Muslims.

Can’t seem to edit on the phone but Telemark 's quote does not belong there.

A lot of Americans believe it is un-American to discriminate against people for no other reason than their religion.

Their religion should be discriminated against, though, because of the many things I mentioned in the OP.

No.
Violent or criminal people should be carefully guarded against. Violence and criminality do not map as easily to religious beliefs as you may think.

Ah, but you’re only focused on the bad things, so it would make the US so much safer if you banned everyone with similar beliefs.

Unless you’re just looking for a scapegoat? I mean the US president would never do such a thing naturally.

I point you towards the many incidents of terrorism by Muslims recently.

Banned or force them to accept reality and logical thinking.

Here are some of the “crimes” the Christian God personally smites/kills people in the Bible for:

  • disobeying an order from God to impregnate one’s dead brother’s wife
  • being firstborn in Egypt
  • complaining about food and wanting to go back to Egypt for an easier life
  • despairing and complaining about the quality of bread
  • touching the Ark while trying to prevent it from tipping over
  • refusing to strike a prophet when ordered to do so by the prophet in question
  • mocking a bald man’s head

Again, I never said I had no qualms with other religions, I made the thread about Islam because it’s a topical subject I’m interested in. It’s not like I hate Muslims for not being Christian.
