SDMB FF Super League of Doom 2012

Last year’s thread.

The idea behind this league is that we take 6 of the SDMB’s best, most active FF players and make a very active, very competitive league. And every year, the person who finishes last gets booted, and we vote to decide who to invite to replace them, using whatever criteria you feel makes the best/most active/most competitive league.

So this league won’t be openly recruiting, but if you’re interested in getting in, mention it here along with a description of your FF history, and it may influence the voting.

Sorry that I’m getting to this so late - it kept slipping my mind until recently. Our draft schedule with the other leagues is pretty busy so we’re going to have to figure out when to draft. With just 6 of us, it should be relatively easy to coordinate.

Results from 2011:

Winner: Retrovertigo
2. Jules Andre
3. SenorBeef
4. Omniscient
5. VarlosZ
6. Really Not All That Bright

Which means Really Not All That Bright is booted from the league.

I was thinking as a way of determining invitees, everyone can send me a list of 5 people in order of preference. The top preference gets 5 points, second gets 4 points, etc. And when we add everyone’s points together, that’s the order we’ll invite people in.

It’s my fault for not getting this process started sooner, but it would help if we had no further delay and you guys got your lists to me fairly quickly. For reference, here are the results of all the FF leagues from last year, and if you click on each of the links to the league pages, you’ll see the historical results for that league.

The goal here is to field the most competitive, active SDMB FF league, so please vote with that in mind. PM me your votes and I’ll invite the top invitee. If they’re not interested, I’ll invite the second place vote getter, etc.

The provisional draft times for the various other leagues are also in the above linked post - so take a look at that schedule and figure out when you’d like to try to get the draft for this league going.

Do we need any changes from last year?

HA HA!

That is all.

For obvious reasons, I like the way this league is set up, and don’t think it needs any changes.

Honestly, I love the 2 QB format as something different from other leagues.

Good luck, assholes!

I won’t be able to continue in this league again this year. Best of luck in year two!

I suppose this means we should invite two invitees from our vote/invitation list. The other alternative is to allow RNATB back in because we know he’s good/active/etc but that goes against the spirit of the league. I really should’ve gotten the ball rolling on this one sooner - August is too late to be recruiting new people. Please get those lists to me quickly.

Just wanted to point out that the “Big League” and the “Super League” have their drafts scheduled for the same night. I figured it would be easier to switch this league then the other.

Ah, woops. I hadn’t properly scheduled the super league yet because I didn’t want it to conflict with anything else (it’s the easiest to move with 6 people) and I wasn’t sure if it was going to get off the ground again this year.

I’m not sure if Jules is coming back. I vaguely recall him telling me he wouldn’t be, but I handled about 30 different PMs this year from people telling me what they would and wouldn’t join, and I lost track of it. I did PM him again 2 days ago to confirm if he would join or not but no response so far. I do have the an invite voting list from the 4 of us, so I should go ahead and add that up today to start sending out invites.

If Jules doesn’t join, RNATB may rejoin even though he was booted - on one hand it’s poor since relegation is a big part of the point of the league, but on the other hand if we’re short a guy, we know RNATB is a good reliable player.

Let me go ahead and tabulate the results from the 4 of our votes and start inviting.

Apart from the whole “outside the spirit of the rules” thing, I don’t think I’ll have time to play in this league this season. I didn’t realize quite how labor-intensive rosters thing big would be.

Aha, Jules posted in the league thread that he wouldn’t be in this year, and I forgot about it.

Hamlet was at the top of the list of vote getters from the lists submitted to me. I invited him, and he accepted. Which means we’ll need to replace Jules, so I’ll go to the 2nd place on the vote getters list - except there’s a tie. Not sure how to break that.

Okay, so draft time may be tricky this year. The last day you can draft on yahoo (for the full season) is Tuesday Sep 4. Last year it was Wednesday, and we did the big league draft on that Tuesday then super league on that Wednesday. But that day is cut out this year because the season starts a day earlier.

The keeper league drafts that monday, and the previous week the auction and all pro leagues draft that wednesday and thursday. I can’t draft before Tuesday the 28th. Which leaves us with Friday-Sunday that week, which might be hard for me.

Or… if we just go ahead and start scoring in week 2, we can draft anytime that week. Since an actual game we’ll all probably be watching is on Wednesday, how about Thursday the 9th? And we start scoring in week 2. Maybe 9pm eastern?

Did one of them win another SDMB league?

Actually, no… cause I won them all.

I’m letting Hamlet have a vote to submit his top 5 since he’s part of the league now, his vote can be a tiebreaker - assuming he votes for one of them or pushes the third place guy over the top.

Missing a week seems wrong and unamerican to me. I mean if we miss a week, we miss a week, but obviously I’d prefer not to. Is there a reason we can’t go for a really early date in the next couple weeks?

I’m pretty flexible on draft times, but I’d like it live and I’d like not to miss a week. Since there are only 6 guys, I think that, if yahoo is a problem, we could hold the draft at another site (does espn or yahoo mock allow 6 team drafts?) and import them over if need be.

My availability is tricky. I’ll be gone without PC access from the 23rds through the 27th. Tuesday the 28th may be doable, but it’s a friends birthday and I don’t know if we’re doing something on that birthday, or that weekend yet, so I can’t guarantee it. Wednesday and Thursday are drafts for the all pro and auction leagues. Weekends will be difficult for me, I’m going to be pretty busy. Monday is the keeper league draft, tuesday is the big league draft.

Aside from Tuesday the 28th, I don’t know if I’ll be available for another draft, and I’m not 100% sure on that date either.

But let me propose this. Every year there’s often a lot of surprises as far as predraft rankings and what actually happens when shit hits the fan and the season starts. It might be interesting to have a league that drafts after week 1 - to add in actual real live NFL performance into our personal rankings. It would definitely make this draft different from the others.

An idea I’ve been floating around for a while is actually to have a league that redrafts every 4 weeks. Both because drafting is inherently fun and I’d like to do it more often, and because it’ll be interesting to see how people react to in-season developments, how they change their strategy from draft to draft, etc. Unfortunately I’m not aware of any sort of site that allows this sort of feature. I suppose we could create 4 seperate leagues somewhere with draft dates throughout the season and then add them all together at the end of the year - that may be viable, but often sites stop hosting drafts in the middle of the season. Are there any ideas for implementing something like that?

In any case, we’ve got a whole lot of drafts in a short period and I’m just not sure if this one would fit in. We may want to seize the opportunity both to have the draft at a less busy time, and have the interesting challenge of re-arranging draft strategy after seeing real NFL action. So I’m thinking it might be interested to draft on say Wednesday the 12th and start scoring in week 2.

IIRC, the final week was meaningless last year, so missing a week shouldn’t matter.

I’m pretty much open anytime, so what ever we decide works for me.

Hamlet’s submission list actually didn’t resolve the tie issue, but I had forgotten that one of the tied players (Munch) was an original invitee to this league last year but couldn’t make the draft. So that seems like a reasonable tiebreaker. Anyway, Munch is in, so we should be full up. Or… at least when Omni joins. He submitted a list and I’m pretty sure he intends to play, but he hasn’t actually signed up for the league yet.

He’s probably trying to kidnap Joe Thomas to replace J’Marcus Webb.
