SDMB All-pro Fantasy Football 2019

Last year’s thread

Provisional draft date will be Thursday, Aug 29 at 8 eastern. If that’s not viable for you please speak up early.

Due to the way yahoo changed how leagues renew a few years ago, everyone automatically gets re-added to the league (rather than re-invited), so I don’t actually know who is still around and intends to participate. To get around this, I booted everyone from the league and then sent another invitation. So please take your invitation if you intend to play this year, and if not, please tell us.

We will likely be recruiting new member this year - to get us back up to 12 and/or replace anyone who may not be participating this year.

I think this league has been stagnating lately, so I think we should experiment with a significant change up. One good idea is a superflex spot which would allow you to start another QB/WR/RB which significantly changes up QB value and draft strategy. I’m open to other ideas about any aspect of the league, and I may come up with some ideas myself in the next few days.

Vampire league?

Draft is fine with me as far as I am aware.

Let’s see if I can not suck as much!

Thanks Beef. I’m in and open to suggestions as well.

After a one year stint, I’m going to have to drop out. This fall is going to be incredibly stressful and busy, and I need to cut down on my fantasy leagues. Given that I lost interest halfway through the season for this league, it seems a good candidate for cutting. When life settles down, I may decide to take another crack at it. Sorry, folks.

I recall I left this league because it was too vanilla, but I would come back if we spiced it up. Super flex is nice. Also I like the idea of doing ALL flex… Gets rid of the TE position.

My team was deleted. Could I get a new invite, Beef?

I’d be down for nearly any change - that’s the nice thing about this league. I think a vampire league would be awesome, and dibs on vampire should go to the champ from last year. I’m also strongly in favor of eliminating kickers, going with 2 QBs or superflex.

Vampire sounds interesting, but would be very time consuming for the commish making all these moves between teams.

I’m in favor of the superflex as that was the best part of the Super League (well the 2QB).

So if we’re going super flex I’m back in, let’s do it.

Beef - can you send me another invite? Thanks.

What are the specifics for the superflex? Would we add multiple flex spots, only one of which can be filled by a second QB? I’m open to that or the vampire league.

Sorry, I’ve been busy this year and kinda half-assing all fantasy football stuff, so I haven’t stayed on top of this. New invites were sent to Munch and Ol’Gaffer. RNATB hasn’t checked in yet. Chisquirrel appears out, so we’ll need to recruit at least one, and maybe Overly Sentimental will want to grab that spot.

I like his idea of actually going all flex spots, I don’t know, what the hell. Maybe something like QB, Superflex (QB, WR, RB, TE), and then 6-8 WR/RB/TE spots. It would at least be pretty unusual without necessarily trying something completely new. You could start 2 QBs (although you could start another position in their place, due to injury/bye week if necessary so you don’t get a zero like you would just having 2 QB spots) and then 6-8 of whatever WR/RB/TE combo you prefer.

Vampire league is a crazy and interesting idea. I haven’t really thought through the logistics of running one on yahoo. This is what they’re talking about, in case anyone is unfamiliar.

If we end up running with 10 this year again as we did last year, we could consider increasing roster sizes a bit to better fit the amount of startable talent.

I like the idea of going both superflex and just going crazy with the flex spots. It’d change strategy enough that it might be interesting, or it might not, but at least it wouldn’t feel stale and would give this league a different feel from the rest this year. It seems like general reception to a change of that nature sounds good to those who’ve rung in.

If we do end up adding a superflex (second QB) spot, would you guys be content with just that, or should we just lean into novelty and have a bunch of flex slots for all the RB/WR/TE spots too? Are there any other relatively modest tweaks (not as drastic as a totally different thing like a vampire league) that’d interest you guys?

I did a full flex last year for my in-person (in addition to a standard) and to be honest it wasn’t as interesting as you would’ve thought. The draft was actually really boring as you pretty much followed the ADP down the line. People weren’t worried about grabbing an early position before a run or having to see if the person in front of you had gone heavy in RBs to see who they might draft.

What if we did the standard line up, the way we have been, but added 2 or 3 flex positions? One flex would be QB/RB/WR/TE while the other one or two would just be RB/WR/TE. If we kept the rosters the same size it would put a much greater onus on working the waiver wire and trading. With only 10 teams there is always available talent.

As I think about it the idea of all-flex probably does play the way Retro indicated. If you can’t take advantage of positional scarcity that’s one less available strategy for the savvy owner.

So I think that adding one super flex is the way to go. I’ve never done it so that will be enough novelty for me.

The Vampire league is a cool idea, with the obvious drawback of everyone wants to be the Vampire.

Maybe we play this year with the winner getting to be the Vampire next year?

I’m back. I cast seven votes for vampire. Don’t care if it’s me.

We still doing Thursday as the draft date? I haven’t seen it confirmed on Yahoo…

Are we set to draft Thursday, and am I in?

I have not been paying attention here. I’ll go along with the crowd on whatever. Just tell me when and where.

I’m also good with drafting this Thursday.

I really like the idea of a super flex. Having a slot we can use for any offensive player should produce some new and fun results.

Looking forward to another season with everyone!
