We will be adding a superflex spot. I normally hold a formal vote for this sort of thing, but since there’s a lot of support and no objection, I’ll just declare it official.
Other changes we can still maybe consider.
I also mis-managed the number of players. For some reason I thought we had room for Overly Sentimental, but I forgot that I already filled chisquirrel’s opening with mhendo. So Overly puts us at 11 - we’d need one more recruitment to get this league back up to 12 people. I will work on that.
Also - if anyone is interested - we still need players for the Big League. I know half of you are already there, but if anyone is interested in another league, the big league tends to be an interesting one because the talent gets spread so thin and draft strategy (auction draft) matters more, there are more viable strategies with more runs on positions and opportunities that happen during the draft.
If you’re at an odd number of players, I’ll drop out.
I can’t make a Thursday draft, and I’m not into the gimmicks rules.
I don’t even know what a SuperFlex is, or a Vampire.
Superflex is basically just having a second QB spot. Except there aren’t that many QBs to go around. You could easily end up in a position where enough QBs go on bye or get injured that you don’t have a starting QB and there are none to pick up. In that case, it would suck to have to take a zero, so instead of just having a second QB spot, instead there’s a spot where you can start any offensive player. QB/RB/WR/TE flex spot. Since QBs are the highest scoring players, it’s almost always preferable to start a QB in that spot, but in a pinch you can use another position as a fallback player.
I’ll see if I can recruit a 12th player. It’d be sad to see you go since you’ve been with us for so long, but I’ll keep in mind that you’re willing to give up the spot in the event that I can’t find a 12th.
In the OP I wrote that the draft would be at 8 eastern, but in the actual league I set it to 9 eastern. I’m going to correct it to match the OP although I think in the past we’ve set it at 9.
Is either time a problem for anyone? As of now, I’m planning on going with 8 eastern / 5 pacific. But we can bump it back if needed, this draft tends to move quickly.
Unfortuantely it’s too late to change and get consent with everyone at this point, and other leagues have their draft next week. If you wanted to do a pre-rank auto draft, where you adjusted your values for players, I’d be okay with that at this point.
But otherwise unfortunately the SDMB just doesn’t have that many people anymore and I think the interest in fantasy football in general is past its peak, so it has been tough to recruit these last few years, and we may end up just having to run with 10.
I don’t think superflex generally do that. I don’t think it’s designed so that all positions are equally viable to start in that spot, but rather, than it’s effectively a second QB slot with backup options so you don’t get screwed if you can’t field 2 QBs.
Yeah, Petey sounds like he’s inclined towards bailing this year and volunteered to step out, so you can have his spot. I’ll send you an invite.
Quick poll? Should we add another WR/RB flex spot too since we’ll be running 10 handed and can afford the deeper rosters, or is just adding a superflex spot enough?
I’m generally not in favor of bigger rosters. It increases the chance that people just luck into having a great player sitting on the bench instead of forcing tough choices.
Sorry - Petey already dropped out and given that neither of you could make the draft I think we’ll just end up going with 10 again this year. Thank you for the interest and you can be first in line next year if we need a replacement or go back up to 12.
To everyone else - the draft is in 2.5 hours. I’ll send a PM reminder to those of you who haven’t been active on the thread recently.
Last year I created a discord group for SDMB fantasy football leagues. It allows voice chat during the draft and also persistent text chat, one channel for each league. Last year we had a few people show up, and it’s already set up so we may as well try to use it again.
Follow that link. If you want, set up your microphone so you can voice chat (you click on General under voice chat) or even if you don’t have a mic set up you can still listen to those of us who do (under the text channels). Makes the draft more interactive/fun.
